Erica (given Name)
The given name Erika, Erica, Ericka, or Ereka is a feminine form of Eric, deriving from the Old Norse name ''Eiríkr'' (or ''Eríkr'' in Eastern Scandinavia due to monophthongization). The first element, ''ei-'' is derived either from the older Proto-Norse ''*aina(z)'', meaning "one, alone, unique", as in the form ''Æinrikr'' explicitly, or from ''*aiwa(z)'' "long time, eternity". The second element ''-ríkr'' stems either from ''*ríks'' "king, ruler" (cf. Gothic ''reiks'') or from the therefrom derived ''*ríkijaz'' "kingly, powerful, rich". The name is thus usually taken to mean "sole ruler, monarch" or "eternal ruler, ever powerful". It is a common name in many Western societies. It is also a popular given name for women in Japan (even though its origin has nothing in common with the Nordic roots of the Western version). ''Erica'' is also the name of a genus of approximately 860 species of flowering plants in the family Ericaceae, commonly known as "heaths" or "heathers" in En ...

Erica (plant)
''Erica'' is a genus of roughly 857 species of flowering plants in the family Ericaceae. The English common names heath and heather are shared by some closely related genera of similar appearance. The genus ''Calluna'' was formerly included in ''Erica'' – it differs in having even smaller scale-leaves (less than 2–3 mm long), and the flower corolla consisting of separate petals. ''Erica'' is sometimes referred to as "winter (or spring) heather" to distinguish it from ''Calluna'' "summer (or autumn) heather". Etymology The Latin word ''erica'' means "heath" or "broom". It is believed that Pliny adapted ''erica'' from Ancient Greek ἐρείκη. The expected Anglo-Latin pronunciation, , may be given in dictionaries (''OED'': "Erica"), but is more commonly heard. Description Most of the species of ''Erica'' are small shrubs from high, though some are taller; the tallest are '' E. arborea'' (tree heath) and '' E. scoparia'' (besom heath), both of which can reach up ...

Erica, Emmen
Erica (also ''Nieuw-Slagharen'') is a town in the north-eastern Netherlands. It is located in Emmen, Drenthe. It started as a peat and buckwheat colony. History Erica was established in 1863. The first inhabitant came from Slagharen. A fuel shortage prompted large-scale efforts to drain the peat in the area and cut them for fuel. People were drawn to the area and canals were dug, both to drain the peat and to transport the cuts. Buckwheat was farmed on the drained peats. It was originally called Nieuw-Slagharen, but has been renamed Erica after the heath plant. Erica started as a linear settlement. In 1867, the was dug, and a second settlement was constructed. Embryo Ranking Intelligent Classification Algorithm
Embryo Ranking Intelligent Classification Algorithm (ERICA) is a deep learning AI software designed to assist embryologists and clinicians during the embryo selection process leading to embryo transfer, a critical step of in vitro fertilisation treatments (IVF). This AI-based software relies on artificial vision to extract features not identifiable with the use of conventional microscopy. Following feature extraction, ERICA accurately ranks embryos according to their prognosis (defined as euploidy and implantation potential). In this way, ERICA removes the subjectivity inherent to previously existing classifications and, by efficiently assisting clinicians, increases the chances of selecting the one embryo with the best chances to become a baby. ERICA's algorithms and the EmbryoRanking.com associated software are cloud-based and base their ranking system on predicting individual embryo's genetic status in a non-invasive fashion. HMS Erica (K50)
HMS ''Erica'' was a that served in the Royal Navy and was built by Harland and Wolff in 1941. She was named after Erica. Commissioned in 1940 and sunk by a mine on 9 February 1943. Design and description In early 1939, with the risk of war with Nazi Germany increasing, it was clear to the Royal Navy that it needed more escort ships to counter the threat from Kriegsmarine U-boats. One particular concern was the need to protect shipping off the east coast of Britain. What was needed was something larger and faster than trawlers, but still cheap enough to be built in large numbers, preferably at small merchant shipyards, as larger yards were already busy. To meet this requirement, the Smiths Dock Company of Middlesbrough, a specialist in the design and build of fishing vessels, offered a development of its 700-ton, whale catcher ''Southern Pride''.Brown 2007, pp. 41–43.Lambert and Brown 2008, p. 3. They were intended as small convoy escort ships that could be produced q ...
