Eric Spear
Eric Spear (18 April 1908 – 3 November 1966), was an English composer best known for his film scores and the theme of the ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street''. Early life and career Spear was born in Croydon in 1908. He participated in the 1953 film '' Street of Shadows'', and his theme for the 1954 movie ''Meet Mr. Callaghan'' was rendered as a best-selling record by Les Paul. He also wrote music and lyrics for the 1959 musical ''Kookaburra'', which played at the Princes Theatre. For a short time in the 1960s, Spear lived in Guernsey. ''Coronation Street'' theme tune In 1954, Spear was commissioned to write the theme tune to '' The Grove Family'', a BBC series that ran for three years, which is generally regarded as the UK's first real soap opera. Croydon
Croydon is a large town in south London, England, south of Charing Cross. Part of the London Borough of Croydon, a local government district of Greater London. It is one of the largest commercial districts in Greater London, with an extensive shopping district and night-time economy. Embassy Records was a UK budget record label that produced cover versions of current hit songs, which were sold exclusively in Woolworths shops at a lower price than the original recordings. The original label was active between 1954 and 1965, after which it disappeared when its parent company, Oriole, was taken over by CBS Records. Later, between 1973 and 1980, CBS Records revived the Embassy imprint to release budget versions of albums in the UK and Europe by artists who were signed to its parent company, Columbia Records. Geoffrey Love (4 September 1917 – 8 July 1991) was a prolific British arranger and composer of easy listening and pop versions of film themes. He became famous in the late 1950s, playing under the pseudonym of Manuel and The Music of The Mountains. Early years Love was born in Todmorden, West Riding of Yorkshire, England, the only son and younger of two surviving children (an elder sister Cornelia) of African American Thomas Edward (Kidd) Love and his English wife, Frances Helen Maycock (1892–1975), an actress and singer. Johnny Briggs (actor)
John Ernest Briggs (5 September 1935 – 28 February 2021) was an English actor. He was known for his role as Mike Baldwin in the soap opera '' Coronation Street'', in which he appeared from 1976 to 2006. Early life Briggs was born in Battersea, south-west London, on 5 September 1935. His father was a master carpenter. He was evacuated from London during the Blitz campaign of World War II. He was awarded a scholarship to train at the Italia Conti Academy stage school when he was 12 years old. There, he learned alongside Millicent Martin, Nanette Newman and Anthony Newley.
