Eric Duncan (politician)
Eric Dawson Duncan (born 10 November 1987) is a Canadian politician who was elected to represent the riding of Stormont—Dundas—South Glengarry in the House of Commons of Canada in the 2019 Canadian federal election. He is a member of the Conservative Party of Canada. Prior to his election to Parliament, Duncan served as mayor of the township of North Dundas from 2010 to 2018. He is the first Conservative MP to be elected as openly gay. During his term as mayor he came out as gay, and during the 2019 federal election campaign he defended party leader Andrew Scheer over his stance on same-sex marriage by arguing that he would not run as a Conservative if his sexual orientation was not welcomed in the Conservative Party. After the Conservatives increased their seat count but did not displace the governing Liberals as the largest party in the House, Duncan argued that the party should rethink its approach to LGBTQ issues in order to resonate with voters. The House of Commons of Canada (french: Chambre des communes du Canada) is the lower house of the Parliament of Canada. Together with the Crown and the Senate of Canada, they comprise the bicameral legislature of Canada. Andrew James Scheer (born May 20, 1979) is a Canadian politician who has served as the member of Parliament (MP) for Regina—Qu'Appelle since 2004. Scheer served as the 35th speaker of the House of Commons from 2011 to 2015, and was the leader of the Conservative Party and leader of the Official Opposition from 2017 to 2020. Scheer earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in criminology, political science, and history. Elected to represent the Saskatchewan riding of Regina—Qu'Appelle at the age of 25, Scheer was re-elected in 2006, 2008, and 2011 before becoming House speaker at age 32, making him the youngest speaker in the chamber's history. Chesterville, Ontario
Chesterville is a village in the township of North Dundas, within the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. It is located north of Morrisburg, west of Cornwall and south-east of Ottawa. The village is situated along the South Nation River. History Early Settlement The land in what would become Dundas County was granted in 1784 to United Empire Loyalists, most of whom had fought with the King's Royal Regiment of New York during the American Revolution. Chesterville's first settlement was located along the South Nation River on Lot 18, Concession 4 of the former Winchester Township. The plot of land was originally granted to Marianne Duncan, the daughter of UE Loyalist Captain Richard Duncan, in 1797. George Hummell purchased the property from Marianne's estate in 1823.
