Eric Brown (golfer)
Eric Chalmers Brown (15 February 1925 – 6 March 1986) was a Scottish professional golfer. Eric Brown was born in Edinburgh. Aged fifteen months he moved to Bathgate, when his father George got a job as a technical-subjects teacher. Eric stayed in Stuart Terrace and played at the golf course across the road. He represented Great Britain in the Ryder Cup in 1953, 1955, 1957 and 1959 and had a 4–4–0 win–loss–half record. He won all of his four singles matches but lost his four foursomes matches. He topped the European Order of Merit in 1957. He was the non-playing captain of the British Ryder Cup teams in 1969 and 1971. He won the Scottish PGA Championship eight times between 1956 and 1968. The Northern Open is a golf tournament played annually in Scotland since 1931. For some years it was one of only two 72-hole tournaments on the "Tartan Tour", the PGA Tour in Scotland's schedule, the other being the Scottish PGA Championship, but since 2019 the event has been played over 36 holes. The Scottish PGA Championship was originally called the Scottish Professional Championship and was only open to professionals while the Northern Open was also open to amateurs. The Dunlop Tournament was a professional golf tournament played in the United Kingdom from 1949 to 1961. It replaced by the "Dunlop-Southport Tournament". It was sponsored by Dunlop. The last event was played in 1961 when Dunlop withdrew their funding, although the continued to support the Dunlop Masters The Betfred British Masters is a professional golf tournament. The British PGA Matchplay Championship was a match play golf tournament that began in 1903 and ran until 1979. Between 1903 and 1969, the event was sponsored by the now defunct British newspaper the ''News of the World'', and was commonly known by the paper's name. Initially organised as the championship of British professionals, the event came to include invited players from other countries – in particular from around the Commonwealth (it was won on four occasions by Australia's Peter Thomson, a record number of victories shared with Dai Rees and James Braid). The Hennessy Tournament was an Irish golf tournament played from 1957 to 1965. Christy O'Connor Snr won the event 5 times between 1957 and 1963. Harold Henning
Harold Henning (3 October 1934 – 1 January 2004) was a South African professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour and the Senior PGA Tour. Early life Henning was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. His brothers Allan, Brian, and Graham all became professional golfers. Professional career Nicknamed ''The Horse'', he turned pro in 1953. From 1953–1965, Henning traveled the world playing on international circuits, winning the national championships of Switzerland. South Africa, Italy, and Germany. A win with Gary Player at the 1965 Canada Cup convinced him to play on the PGA Tour. In 1966 Henning won the PGA Tour's Texas Open. However, he was not a PGA Tour member yet and was expected to earn membership at 1966 PGA Tour Qualifying School. Yorkshire Evening News Tournament
The Yorkshire Evening News Tournament was an international golf tournament in the English Yorkshire area before the European Tour was founded. It was a match play tournament for most of its existence, but switched to stroke play in the 1940s. The tournament was played annually from 1923 to 1963, with no tournaments held during World War II. George Will (golfer)
George Duncan Will (16 April 1937 – 4 December 2010) was a Scottish professional golfer. A consistent tournament player around the world with a fine swing, George Will played in the 1963, 1965 and 1967 Ryder Cup's. He was one of the select number of golfers chosen to play in the televised Shell's Wonderful World of Golf series, defeating reigning USPGA champion Dave Marr at Turnberry in 1966. After his playing days, he became a teacher which included a spell as Belgian National Coach in the early 1990s. The Gleneagles Hotel Foursomes Tournament was a pro-am golf tournament played at the Gleneagles Hotel, Auchterarder, Perthshire, Scotland. The event was held annually from 1953 to 1966. From 1953 to 1957 it was called the Gleneagles-Saxone Foursomes Tournament. Saxone was a Scottish footwear manufacturer. The Betfred British Masters is a professional golf tournament. It was founded in 1946 as the Dunlop Masters and was held every year up to 2008, except for 1984. Dunlop's sponsorship ended in 1982, and the name sponsor changed frequently thereafter, with the words "British Masters" usually also in the tournament's official name. The tournament was not held from 2009 to 2014 but returned to the schedule in 2015. The Scottish PGA Championship is a golf tournament played annually in Scotland since 1907. For many years the event was called the Scottish Professional Championship. It is the flagship event on the "Tartan Tour", the PGA Tour in Scotland's schedule. The 2016 event was the 100th staging of the Championship and the final event on the 2016 Tartan Tour schedule. John Fallon (golfer)
John Fallon (29 April 1913 – 7 December 1985) was a Scottish professional golfer whose career spanned the years either side of World War II. He was born in Lanark, Scotland. Although never a winner of a major tournament of note, Fallon often contended with high finishes – he lost the final of the 1954 British PGA Matchplay Championship, and was perhaps most unlucky that he missed out on a potential Open Championship that might have been played at St Andrews during the war years. He had placed third there in 1939, and then second in 1955, each time by just a handful of strokes. Fallon played on the 1955 Ryder Cup team and in 1963 he was non-playing captain of the Great Britain Ryder Cup team.
