Scottish PGA Championship
The Scottish PGA Championship is a golf tournament played annually in Scotland since 1907. For many years the event was called the Scottish Professional Championship. It is the flagship event on the "Tartan Tour", the PGA Tour in Scotland's schedule. The 2016 event was the 100th staging of the Championship and the final event on the 2016 Tartan Tour schedule. History 1907 Scottish Professional Championship The 1907 Championship was held on 25 and 26 October at Panmure Golf Club, two miles west of Carnoustie. The championship was over 72 holes of medal play with 36 holes played each day. Entry was restricted to professionals born and resident in Scotland. The professionals also had to be either a member of the PGA or attached to a club. The residency rule excluded players like James Braid and Sandy Herd who were attached to English clubs. European Tour
The European Tour (currently known as the DP World Tour for sponsorship reasons), legally the PGA European Tour is the leading men's professional golf tour in Europe. The organisation also operates the European Senior Tour (for players aged fifty or older) and the developmental Challenge Tour; the second tier of men’s professional golf in Europe. The tour's headquarters are at the Wentworth Club in Virginia Water, Surrey, England. The European Tour was established by the British-based Professional Golfers' Association through the 1970s, and responsibility was transferred to an independent PGA European Tour organisation in 1984. Ross Alexander Cameron (born 14 May 1965) is an Australian politician who was a Liberal member of the Australian House of Representatives from March 1996 to October 2004, representing the Division of Parramatta, New South Wales. David Orr (golfer)
David Duvall Orr (born October 4, 1944) is an American Democratic politician who served as the Cook County Clerk from 1990 to 2018. Orr previously served as alderman for the 49th ward in Chicago City Council from 1979 to 1990. He briefly served as acting Mayor of Chicago from November 25 to December 2, 1987, following the death of Mayor Harold Washington. Orr retired from the office of Cook County Clerk in 2018, opting not to run for an eighth term. Early life Born in Chicago, Orr is a graduate of Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. He was an instructor at Mundelein College in 1979, when he first decided to run for alderman. Chris Doak
Chris Doak (born 19 December 1977) is a Scottish professional golfer on the European Tour. After becoming a professional in 1997, 'Doaky' played on the Scottish PGA Tartan Tour, twice topping the regional Order of Merit and clocking up over forty wins, including the Northern Open in both 2005 and 2008. Also in 2008, Doak won the Srixon PGA Play-offs to become the British and Irish PGA No.1 and set a new record for the most Tartan Tour order of merit wins in one season. In 2010 Chris returned to the Tartan Tour circuit to win the Scottish PGA Championship at Gleneagles. Doak first played on the European Tour in 2009. He played on the Challenge Tour from 2010 to 2012, winning at the 2012 Allianz Open de Lyon. Christopher Currie (golfer)
Christopher Wayne Currie (1985 – 19 August 2005) was a 20-year-old apprentice in the building trades who was killed by a stone deliberately thrown at his car as he drove along a motorway near Auckland, New Zealand. His girlfriend and her two cousins who were in the car with him at the time of his death were injured but survived the assault. Rock-throwing incident While Currie was driving a car along the Southern Motorway in Otahuhu, he was struck by an 8 kg block of concrete dropped from the Princess Street overbridge. The stone block smashed through the windscreen of Currie's car, struck his chin and then his chest. This fractured his sternum, which severed his heart's main artery and instantly killed him.
