Erewash Sound
Erewash Sound is a community radio station broadcasting to the borough of Erewash in Derbyshire, including Ilkeston, West Hallam, Long Eaton, Borrowash and surrounding areas. Following a short-term RSL broadcast in the summer of 2005, the station has broadcast via the Internet since 2007. In April 2008, the station was awarded a five-year community licence by OFCOM and launched on 96.8FM on Saturday 6 March 2010 at 9am. The station is run by local volunteers from across the borough and broadcasts from studios within the Media Centre on the site of the former Ormiston Ilkeston Enterprise Academy in Cotmanhay. History The founding members of Erewash Sound first came together in 1997 and were involved in delivering six short-term 28-day RSL broadcasts as Pride FM in Derby between 1997 and 2002. Erewash () is a local government district with borough status in Derbyshire, England, to the east of Derby and the west of Nottingham. The population of the district as taken at the 2011 Census was 112,081. It contains the towns of Ilkeston, Long Eaton and Sandiacre and fourteen civil parishes. Ilkeston
Ilkeston is a town in the Borough of Erewash, Derbyshire, England, on the River Erewash, from which the borough takes its name, with a population at the 2011 census of 38,640. Its major industries, coal mining, iron working and lace making/textiles, have now all but disappeared. The town is close to both Derby and Nottingham and is near the M1 motorway and the border with Nottinghamshire. West Hallam
West Hallam is a large village and civil parish close to Ilkeston in the county of Derbyshire in the East Midlands region of England. West Hallam has had its own parish council since 1894 and, since 1974, has been part of the Erewash borough. Long Eaton is a town in the Erewash district of Derbyshire, England, just north of the River Trent, about south-west of Nottingham and some 8½ miles (13.7 km) south-east of Derby. Borrowash
Borrowash is a village in the Erewash district of Derbyshire, England, situated immediately east of the Derby city boundary. The appropriate civil parish is called Ockbrook and Borrowash. History Borrowash was, for most of its history, the second village in Ockbrook parish and sits on the eastern edge of Derby city. In the late 1800s it started to grow and now it is the larger of the two villages. The Derby Canal arrived in Borrowash in 1796, but it gradually fell into decline after the introduction of the railway during mid nineteenth century; and by the 1960s it was abandoned. Passenger rail service ceased in 1966 and the Borrowash railway station was demolished in 1994. Cotmanhay
Cotmanhay is a village in Derbyshire, England and used to be a Viking settlement. Cotmanhay is in the Erewash Borough Council area, north of Ilkeston. Recently a flint implement was found at the edge of Cotmanhay Wood, indicating that the area was inhabited several thousand years BC. The Erewash ward population at the 2011 Census was 4,531, the area is also home to local Erewash celebrity James Currie Jr. The neighbourhood's two main industries were textiles and coal mining, the latter from 1848 until 1880. Ilkeston Co-operative Society was a consumer co-operative society based in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, England. By 2006, Ilkeston had created one of the largest independent travel companies in the UK, operating 42 branches throughout the East Midlands and South Yorkshire. It also operated a department store, two bedding stores, a banqueting suite and two car body shops, having sold its car retail business to United Co-operatives in 2004.
