The Westmeath County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae na hIarmhí) or Westmeath GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Westmeath. Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. Paddy Dowdall (born 1982) is an Irish hurler who currently plays as a midfielder for the Westmeath senior team. Dowdall joined the Westmeath team straight from the minor ranks in 2001, however, he didn't become a regular until the 2003 National League. Since then he was won two Christy Ring Cup medals and one National League (Division 2) medal. Aonghus Clarke (born 1993) is an Irish hurler who plays as centre back for the Westmeath senior team. Born in Castletown Geoghegan, County Westmeath, Clarke first played competitive hurling during his schooling at Coláiste Mhuire CBS. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he first linked up with the Westmeath minor team, before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut during the 2012 championship. Clarke immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen. Cormac Boyle
Cormac Boyle (born 1991) is an Irish hurler who plays for Westmeath Senior Championship club Raharney and at inter-county level with the Westmeath senior hurling team. He usually lines out at midfield. Career Boyle first came to hurling prominence at juvenile and underage levels with the Raharney club. He eventually joined the club's top adult team at senior level and was part of their County Championship successes in 2014 and 2016. Boyle first appeared on the inter-county scene during a two-year stint with the Westmeath minor hurling team before later lining out at under-21 level as a dual player. He joined the Westmeath senior hurling team in 2012. Boyle has since won two National League Division 2A titles and captained the team to the 2021 Joe McDonagh Cup title.
