Enrique O'Neil
Enrique O'Neil was Mayor of Ponce, Puerto Rico, from 1866 to 1867. Mayoral term Enrique O'Neil is best known for having adopted a complete plan for urban remodeling for the city of Ponce in 1867. The plan was adopted with the help of Spanish military engineer Félix D'Ors. It was influenced by remodeling plans in Paris, Barcelona, and Madrid. Part of the legacy of that plan are the chamfered street corners evident throughout the city. Carlos Cabrera Y Martínez
Carlos Cabrera y Martínez () was interim Mayor of Ponce, Puerto Rico, from 1 November 1866 to 19 December 1866. He was interim mayor, together with Francisco Romero (mayor), Francisco Romero, and both performed as interim corregidor (position), corregidors until Colonel Enrique O'Neil became the appointed corregidor on 20 December 1866 for the remainder of that year and into 1867. Background As a young man, Cabrera y Martínez liked to write poems. As an adult, he was a sugar cane hacendado farmer and was several times appointed a Diputado Provincial (Provincial Delegate) as well as other prominent positions in the Ponce society. Cabrera y Martinez had his house at the northeast corner of Calle Cristina and Calle Marina, across from Plaza Las Delicias. His house had belonged to José Ortiz de la Renta. Demetrio Santaella
Demetrio Santaella (ca. 1807 – ca. 1887) was Mayor of Ponce, Puerto Rico, from 22 January 1867 to 31 December 1868. Mayoral term While acting as the maximum civil authority in Ponce during most of the year in 1867 and the entire year in 1868, Santaella was titled a ''"corregidor"''. As such, he performed as the local administrative and judicial official in the municipality. The position of corregidor obligated him to act as representative of the royal jurisdiction over the "Villa de Ponce" and its municipal area. Santaella took over leadership of the town from Spanish Colonel Enrique O'Neil and, at the end of his term, handed over leadership to Spanish Colonel Elicio Berriz. A chamfer or is a transitional edge between two faces of an object. Sometimes defined as a form of bevel, it is often created at a 45° angle between two adjoining right-angled faces. This is a list of mayors of Ponce, Puerto Rico's southern economic center, the island's second largest and second most important city. From 1692 to 1840, the office of mayor in Ponce was filled either by local hacendados or by military officers appointed by the governor, depending on whether the political situation on Spain at the time was that of a constitutional or an absolutist government. From 1840 to 1870, mayors were oftentimes elected by the municipal council, whose members were called '' regidores''.
