The Embassy of Syria in Paris ( ar, سفارة الجمهورية العربية السورية في باريس; french: Ambassade de la République arabe syrienne à Paris) is the diplomatic mission of the Syrian Arab Republic to France. It is located at 20 Rue Vaneau in the 7th arrondissement of Paris. History The Syrian Embassy has been located at its current location since 1980; previously it was located in a villa at 22 Boulevard Suchet, which now houses the Embassy of Monaco. This move, which had been planned for several years, was however precipitated by an attack on the embassy on January 29, 1980. Its Ambassador, also Permanent Delegate of Syria to UNESCO, is Lamia Chakkour. Houla Massacre
The Houla massacre ( ar, مجزرة الحولة) was a mass murder of civilians by Syrian government forces that took place on May 25, 2012, in the midst of the Syrian Civil War, in the town of Taldou, in the Houla Region of Syria, a string of towns northwest of Homs. According to the United Nations, 108 people were killed, including 34 women and 49 children. While a small proportion of the deaths appeared to have resulted from artillery and tank rounds used against Taldou, the U.N. later announced that most of the massacre's victims had been "summarily executed in two separate incidents". UN investigators have reported that some witnesses and survivors stated that the massacre was committed by pro-government Shabiha. Relations between France and Syria have a long and complex history. The contemporary relationship largely dates back to the French mandate (1923–1946) over the region established in the midst of the defeat and subsequent Partition of the Ottoman Empire at the end of World War I.
