Elzear Duquette
Elzear Duquette (* 1910 Mirabel, Quebec; † Saint-Sulpice, Quebec) was a Canadian long-distance walker who undertook multiple cross-continental solo endurance walks. Dubbed the "King of the Walk," Duquette walked for over 40 years. From 1969 to 1976, Duquette traveled on foot round trip from Montreal to destinations including Vancouver, Tokyo, and Paris. He covered over 23,000 miles on his trips. Duquette pulled a small cart, which he called his "coffin," which he both slept in and used to carry all of his necessities for the trip. He supported himself through the sale of mementos and through television appearances along the journey. Mirabel, Quebec
Mirabel is a suburb of Montreal, located on the North Shore in southern Quebec. Mirabel is also the name of a territory equivalent to a regional county municipality (TE) and census division (CD) of Quebec, coextensive with the city of Mirabel. Its geographical code is 74. Prior to 2002, Mirabel was not only a city but also comprised the Mirabel Regional County Municipality. The city is home to Montréal–Mirabel International Airport. Saint-Sulpice, Quebec
Saint-Sulpice () is a municipality in the Lanaudière region of Quebec, Canada, part of the L'Assomption Regional County Municipality. It is located on the north shore of the Saint Lawrence River and includes most of Verchères Islands. History From 1680 onwards, French settlers colonized this area, clearing the land for cultivation. At that time it was part of the Saint-Sulpice Seignory that was owned by the Society of Saint-Sulpice. In 1640 the seignory granted a concession to Pierre Chevrier, Baron of Fancamp, and to Jérôme Le Royer.
