Elmar Salumaa
Elmar Salumaa (15 December 1908 Vara Parish – 1 January 1996 Kilingi-Nõmme) was an Estonian theologian. In 1935 he graduated from Tartu University in religion. From 1937 to 1940 and 1942 to 1944, he taught at Tartu University. From 1944 to 1945 he was a pastor at Laiuse Congregation. In 1945 he was arrested and until 1955 he was imprisoned. Kilingi-Nõmme
Kilingi-Nõmme is a town in Pärnu County, southwestern Estonia. It is the administrative centre of Saarde Parish. It's located on the intersection of Valga– Uulu (Valga–Pärnu, nr 6) and Tartu–Viljandi–Kilingi-Nõmme (nr 92) roads, about from the Estonian border with Latvia. History The settlement was first mentioned in 1560 when a manor named ''Ovelgunne'' (also ''Kurkund'') belonging to the Schilling family was established. In 1789 a tavern was opened in the nearby Nõmme farmstead. Hence the name "Kilingi-Nõmme", ''Kilingi'' derived from the ''Schilling'' surname. In the 1870s when most of the manor's land was handed out to Orthodox believers, the settlement started to develop faster. Local congregation was established in 1845, and a parish school three years later. Kilingi-Nõmme was then the centre of the surrounding Saarde Parish. Estonians or Estonian people ( et, eestlased) are a Finnic ethnic group native to Estonia who speak the Estonian language. Laiuse
Laiuse (german: link=no, Lais) is a small borough (') in Estonia. It is located in Jõgeva County and is a part of Jõgeva Parish. As of 2011 census, the settlement's population was 371.Laiuse Middle Schoolis one of the oldest in Estonia, being established in 1822. Laiuse is the location of the medieval Laiuse church. The church was first mentioned in 1319. In the church yard, there's an old lime tree, which was supposedly planted there by king Charles XII of Sweden during his visit in 1701.
