Many pupils move on at 11 to local grammar schools, others to day independent or maintained schools, with a few taking up places at boarding schools. Little Baddow
Little Baddow is a village to the east of Chelmsford, Essex. The name ''Baddow'' comes from an Old English word meaning 'bad water', and which was the original name of the River Chelmer. The village is positioned on one of the many elevated hills in Essex and comprises extensive woodlands owned by the National Trust and Essex Naturalist Trust, and is bounded by the River Chelmer to the north. Although there are no shops or businesses in the village, there are two pubs, ''The Generals Arms'' and ''The Rodney'', a village hall, and Elm Green Preparatory School. Churches are the Anglican St Mary the Virgin and the United Reformed Church. St Mary's is a Grade I listed building with a late 11th-century core. Anya Susannah Hindmarch, (; born 1968) is an English fashion accessories designer who founded an eponymous company. Career Hindmarch was born into an entrepreneurial family and attended New Hall School, an independent school in Chelmsford, Essex. At 16 Hindmarch was given an old Gucci handbag by her mother and at 18, in around 1986, she went to Florence to study Italian for a year. While she was in Italy, she noticed a drawstring leather duffel bag was all the rage among fashionable women. Even though the UK economy was in a recession, she was inspired by Margaret Thatcher's entrepreneurial ideas, Hindmarch borrowed some money to import some bags to England, and after sending a bag to the fashion magazine ''Harpers and Queen'' she sold 500 through the magazine.
