Eline Eriksen
Eline Eriksen (1881 – 1963), born Eline Vilhelmine Møller, was the wife (since 1900) of Edvard Eriksen and the model for the body of the ''Little Mermaid'' statue in Copenhagen, Denmark. The face of that statue was modeled after ballerina Ellen Price. Before this Eriksen had stood model for several of her husband's statues, such as ''The First Grief'' and ''The Sufferer''. Edvard Eriksen
Edvard Eriksen (10 March 1876 – 12 January 1959) was a Danish–Icelandic sculptor. Biography He apprenticed as a wood carver, after which he trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts between 1894 and 1899. Eriksen's most famous work is the bronze statue of ''The Little Mermaid'' (''Det Lille Havfrue''). In 1909, Jacob Christian Jacobsen, founder of Carlsberg brewery, commissioned the work of art as a gift to the City of Copenhagen. It was set up on 23 August 1913 by the shore of the promenade Langelinie in the harbor of the old port district of Nyhavn. Two different women served as models to create the statue. Eriksen used his wife, Eline Eriksen, as the model for the statue's body and actress Ellen Price as the model for the mermaid's head. Ellen Juliette Collin Price de Plane (21 June 1878, Snekkersten - 4 March 1968, Brøndby Municipality), better known as Ellen Price, was a Danish ballerina and actress, and a model for the statue ''The Little Mermaid'' in Copenhagen. Price was born in a well-known artistic family: her father Andreas Nicolai Carl Price (1839–1909) and her mother Helga Collin (1841–1918) were ballet dancers in Royal Danish Theatre. Her father's cousin, Juliette Price (1831–1906), was a Danish prima ballerina and a number of Price's other relatives were actors and musicians. In 1889 - 1895, Price was trained at school of Royal Danish Ballet and joined the theater of Royal Danish Ballet; she debuted on May, 28th 1895 with a pas de trois in the ballet ''Window'' (La Ventana) written by composer Hans Christian Lumbye and choreographed by August Bournonville. Vestre Cemetery ( da, Vestre Kirkegård, meaning "Western Cemetery") is located in a large park setting in the Kongens Enghave district of Copenhagen, Denmark. With its 54 hectares it is the largest cemetery in Denmark. The cemetery is landscaped and serves as an important open space, in which people take a stroll, and look at the old graves and monuments.
