Electoral District Of Kawana
Kawana is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. Based on the Sunshine Coast, the district has been held by both sides of politics over its short history. Geography A coastal urban electorate lying to the east of the Bruce Highway, Kawana includes the suburbs of Kawana Waters, Sippy Downs, Minyama, Buddina, Parrearra, Warana, Bokarina and Birtinya. It also includes Aroona, Little Mountain, Wurtulla and parts of Currimundi and Caloundra West, all of which were added to the district at the redistribution ahead of the 2009 state election. Originally the district stretched further north and west to include the suburbs of Buderim, Mountain Creek and Tanawha. However, these parts were redistributed into the new district of Buderim by the aforementioned redistribution. Jarrod Bleijie
Jarrod Pieter Bleijie (; born 25 January 1982) is an Australian politician in the Queensland parliament. Bleijie was elected as the member for Kawana at the 2009 state election, and is the third member since the seat's inception at the 2001 state election. He served as Attorney-General of Queensland from 2012 until 2015. Biography Early life Jarrod Bleijie was born on 25 January 1982 in Griffith, New South Wales. His father is Pieter Bleijie and his mother, Christine (Cooper) Bleijie. They moved to Caloundra, Queensland, in 1989. He attended Griffith Primary School, Caloundra State School, and Caloundra State High School, where he graduated in 2000 as school captain. He studied politics at the University of the Sunshine Coast before transferring to Brisbane to complete a Bachelor of Laws at Queensland University of Technology. He graduated in 2005. Warana is a coastal suburb of Kawana Waters in the Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Warana had a population of 3,688 people. Geography Warana is located within the Kawana Waters urban centre. The western boundary of Warana follows the Mooloolah River and the middle of Wyuna Canal. A coastal reserve, which extends southwards into Bokarina and Wurtulla, has been established along the foreshore preventing beachfront development. The area immediately west of the coastal reserve is residential. In the south-west of the suburb is an industrial estate, the Kawana Sewerage Treatment Plant and an undeveloped marsh area in the far south-west. 2001 Queensland State Election
An election was held in the Australian state of Queensland on 17 February 2001 to elect the 89 members of the state's Legislative Assembly. The result of the election was the return of the Labor Party (ALP) government of Premier Peter Beattie, with an increased majority. Labor won 66 seats, easily the most it has ever won in Queensland and one of Labor's best-ever results nationwide. There was a 10.07% swing towards Labor, while One Nation suffered a 13.98% swing against it, losing eight seats (five of which were held by the newly formed City Country Alliance after an internal split in December 1999). The longstanding coalition between the Nationals and Liberals, led by Nationals leader (and former premier) Rob Borbidge recorded only a 2.39% swing against it. Tanawha (pronounced /'tæn-uh-wuh/) is a rural locality in the Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. The name ''Tanawha'' is believed to be a Māori language word referring to a legendary New Zealand monster. For statistical purposes, it is regarded as a subub of Buderim. Geography Tanawha is in the Sunshine Coast hinterland and is part of the Buderim urban centre. It is home of the Tanawha Tourist Drive. Buderim is the central suburb of the town of Buderim in the Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , the suburb of Buderim had a population of 29,355 people. The 2009 Queensland state election was held on 21 March 2009 to elect all 89 members of the Legislative Assembly, a unicameral parliament. Currimundi is a coastal suburb of Caloundra in the Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Currimundi had a population of 6,786 people. The area is noted for its diverse environment and is one of Queensland's top five ecotourism destinations. Geography Currimundi is located on the northern boundary of the Caloundra area.
