New South Wales Legislative Assembly Electoral Districts
The New South Wales Legislative Assembly is elected from single-member electorates called districts, returning 93 members since the 1999 election. Prior to 1927 some districts returned multiple members, including 1920-1927 when all districts returned 3,4 or 5 members. Parramatta is the only district to have continuously existed since the establishment of the Assembly in 1856. Robert McCartney (Australian Politician)
Robert Arthur McCartney (7 September 1906 – 19 July 1978) was an Australian politician who represented the Electoral district of Hamilton for the Labor Party from 1959 until 1971. Early life McCartney was born to parents Robert McCartney snr. and Elizabeth Hunter. McCartney immigrated to Australia in 1921 to New South Wales with his family. His father was killed in the battle of the Battle of the Somme in World War I. McCartney served in the Royal Australian Air Force from 1941 to 1946. He was on active reserve until 1956. George Glover Campbell
George Glover Campbell (2 March 1887 – 3 September 1967) was an Australian politician who represented the Electoral district of Hamilton from 1950 till 1959 for the Labor Party. Early life Born in England to parents Isaac Campbell, a grocer, and Susannah Patterson, Campbell Jr arrived in Australia in 1905. He lived at Drummoyne and worked in Sydney harbour shipyards. He moved to Newcastle in 1907, and was employed in State Dockyard at Walsh Island. He remained at the dockyards until being employed in parliament. Political career Campbell was President of Merewether branch and of Hamilton state electorate council for some years. He was an Alderman on Merewether council. Joshua Arthur
Joshua George Arthur (27 January 1906 – 20 May 1974) was an Australian schoolteacher and politician who represented the Hamilton and Kahibah districts for the Labor Party. Early life Born to Joshua Arthur, a blacksmith, and Ethel May Embleton in Adamstown, New South Wales. He was educated at Adamstown Public School, Newcastle High School and Sydney Teachers College, graduating in 1924. He taught for the New South Wales Department of Education from 1925 until 1935, in the Wellington, Sydney and Newcastle districts. He served in the second Australian Imperial Forces. Enlisted in 1940, served in North Africa and on the staff of the Minister for the Army, Frank Forde, from 1943 until 1945.
