Electoral District Of Caloundra
Caloundra is a Legislative Assembly of Queensland electoral district on the Sunshine Coast in the Australian state of Queensland. The electorate is centred on the city of Caloundra and stretches north to Wurtulla, south to Pelican Waters and west to the Bruce Highway. The seat was held by Mark McArdle, the first deputy leader of the Liberal National Party from 2008 to 2009, and prior to that state Liberal leader from November 2007 to July 2008. McArdle succeeded former Liberal leader Joan Sheldon upon her retirement in 2004. On 27 June 2019, McArdle announced he would retire from politics at the 2020 state election. The seat was won by Labor's Jason Hunt at the 2020 election. Jason C Hunt (born 3 January 1970) is an Australian politician who currently serves as a Labor member of the Queensland Parliament for the seat of Caloundra since 2020. After contesting in both the 2015 and 2017 elections, Hunt won the seat of Caloundra at the 2020 election, succeeding retiring LNP member Mark McArdle Mark Francis McArdle (born 21 December 1956) is an Australian politician and former Deputy Leader of the Opposition in Queensland. Wurtulla is a coastal suburb of Kawana Waters in the Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Wurtulla had a population of 5,905 people. Geography Wurtulla is located within the Kawana Waters urban centre. Wurtulla is bounded by the Coral Sea to the east, Currimundi Creek (also known as Currimundi Lake) to the south, Pangali Canal and Lake Kawana to the west and Lake Kawana Boulevarde and Wurley Drive to the north. Antony John Green (born 2 March 1960) is an Australian psephologist and commentator. He is the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's chief election analyst. Early years and background Born in Warrington, Lancashire, in northern England, Green emigrated to Australia with his family in 1964. He attended James Ruse Agricultural High School in Sydney, graduating in 1977. Green graduated with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and computing, and a Bachelor of Economics with honours in politics from the University of Sydney. He worked initially as a data analyst in the computing industry and for a polling company before joining the ABC in 1989. The Liberal Party of Australia (Queensland Division), branded as Liberal Queensland, was the Queensland division of the Liberal Party of Australia until 2008. It was initially formed in October 1943 as the Queensland People's Party (QPP), which then absorbed the disbanded Queensland branch of the United Australia Party in 1944. In 1945, the QPP had an agreement with the newly formed Liberal Party, where in the "federal sphere", QPP would be the Queensland division of the Liberal Party and would run its candidates under the Liberal Party banner in federal elections. 2020 Queensland State Election
The 2020 Queensland state election was held on 31 October to elect all 93 members to the Legislative Assembly of Queensland. The Labor Party was returned to government for a third-term, led by incumbent premier Annastacia Palaszczuk. With 47 seats needed to form a majority government, Labor won 52 seats, including all but five in Brisbane, while the Liberal National Party won 34 seats and formed opposition. Joan Sheldon
Joan Mary Sheldon (born 29 April 1943) is an Australian politician. She was a Liberal Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1990 to 2004, representing the electorates of Landsborough (1990–1992) and then Caloundra (1992–2004). She was the state Liberal leader from 1991 to 1998, and served as Deputy Premier in the Borbidge government from 1996 to 1998. Early life Sheldon was born in Bundaberg, Queensland, and attended St Bernadette's Primary School and Soubirous College. She studied physiotherapy at the University of Queensland and subsequently studied for a time at Trinity College London. Mark Francis McArdle (born 21 December 1956) is an Australian politician and former Deputy Leader of the Opposition in Queensland. He was a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland between 2004 and 2020, representing the electorate of Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast. Bruce Highway
The Bruce Highway is a major highway in Queensland, Australia. Commencing in the state capital, Brisbane, it passes through areas close to the eastern coast on its way to Cairns in Far North Queensland. The route is part of the Australian National Highway and also part of Highway 1, the longest highway route in Australia. Its length is approximately ; it is entirely sealed with bitumen.
