Elachista Leucofrons
''Elachista leucofrons'' is a moth of the family Elachistidae. It is found in the United States, where it has been recorded from Maine, Ohio, North Carolina, California, Colorado and New Mexico. The habitat consists of low-lying deciduous forests. The wingspan is 9–10 mm. Adults have been recorded on wing in February, May and August, depending on the location. There is one generation per year. Moths are a paraphyletic group of insects that includes all members of the order Lepidoptera that are not butterflies, with moths making up the vast majority of the order. Elachistidae
The Elachistidae (grass-miner moths) are a family of small moths in the superfamily Gelechioidea. Some authors lump about 3,300 species in eight subfamilies here, but this arrangement almost certainly results in a massively paraphyletic and completely unnatural assemblage, united merely by symplesiomorphies retained from the first gelechioid moths. In fact, most of these moths appear to be either closer to the Oecophorinae and are hence nowadays usually included in the Oecophoridae ( Depressariinae, " Deuterogoniinae", Hypertrophinae, Stenomatinae and perhaps the enigmatic '' Aeolanthes''), or constitute quite basal lineages of gelechioids, neither closely related to '' Elachista'' nor to '' Oecophora'', and hence best treated as independent families within the Gelechioidea ( Agonoxenidae, Ethmiidae). ''Elymus virginicus'', or Virginia wildrye, is a perennial bunchgrass located in Virginia and the eastern United States. Virginia wild rye is one of the few cool season native grasses found in the east Texas area. It is extremely palatable to livestock and will decrease without proper grazing management. It spreads via seed and tillering. It can be confused with Canadian wild rye which is a more robust plant with longer awns. Hystrix (plant)
''Hystrix'' was a formerly recognized genus of grass (family Poaceae). The genus ''Hystrix'' was created in 1794 by Conrad Moench for the species described as ''Elymus hystrix'' by Carl Linnaeus in 1753. Moench considered that ''E. hystrix'' was sufficiently distinct to be placed in a separate genus as ''Hystrix patula''; the genus was to be used for species without glumes or with long setaceous glumes. Subsequently a number of other grass species were placed in this genus. Genomic studies from the 1960s onwards showed that ''H. patula'' does in fact belong in ''Elymus'', as this is now defined.
