''El Filibusterismo'' (''Subversion)'' is an opera in 3 acts by Felipe Padilla de León Felipe Padilla de León (May 1, 1912 – December 5, 1992) was a Filipino classical music composer, conductor, and scholar. Jovita Flores Fuentes (February 15, 1895 – August 7, 1978) was a Filipina soprano singer. Background She was born in Capiz (now Roxas City) to a well-off couple named Canuto and Dolores Fuentes. At an early age, she displayed interest in music, learning the contemporary songs at that time. In 1917, she took up college at the University of the Philippines Conservatory of Music. In order to hone her skills further she pursued her studies abroad, going to Italy. A bass-baritone is a high-lying bass or low-lying "classical" baritone voice type which shares certain qualities with the true baritone voice. ''Noli Me Tangere'' (''Touch Me Not)'' is an opera in 3 acts by Felipe Padilla de León with libretto by Guillermo Tolentino. The opera was closely based on a novel by José Rizal by the same name. The opera was sung entirely in Tagalog and is considered as the first full-length Filipino opera. Composition history The librettist wrote the libretto during the war and the composer started writing the opera in 1953. However two arias from the opera, Maria Clara's "Kay Tamis ng Buhay" and Sisa's "Awit ng Gabi" were written earlier, with the former being written in 1949 and the latter written in 1952 for Fides Cuyugan-Asensio's Graduation Recital. ''Noli Me Tángere'' (Latin for "''Touch me not''") is an 1887 novel by Filipino writer and activist José Rizal published during the Spanish colonial period of the Philippines.
