Eila Campbell
Eila Muriel Joice Campbell (15 December 1915 – 12 July 1994) was an English geographer and cartographer. She was best known for her work on ''Domesday Geography of England'' and her work on the international journal, '' Imago Mundi''. Early life and education Campbell was born on 15 December 1915. She was educated at Bournemouth School for Girls and Brighton Diocesan Training College. After graduating from Birkbeck College, University of London in 1941, Campbell worked as a teacher in Southall, west London while also working as a part-time assistant at Birkbeck College. Campbell received an MA with distinction from Birkbeck in 1946. Career Campbell began working at Birkbeck College as an assistant lecture in 1945. She continued to work at Birkbeck throughout her academic career. She was made a lecturer in 1948, reader in 1963 and in 1970 became a full professor and the head of the geography department at the college. She retired from Birkbeck in 1981. Eila Hiltunen
Eila Vilhelmina Hiltunen (22 November 1922, Sortavala – 10 October 2003, Helsinki) was a Finnish sculptor. She is most famous for the Sibelius Monument (1967). A statue by Hiltunen resembling a smaller version of the Sibelius Monument stands on the grounds of the United Nations headquarters in New York City. Life Hiltunen was born into a prosperous family in 1922. Her father invested in automobiles and her mother was a strong supporter of her only child. The family's prospects changed dramatically during the economic crash of 1929 and her father took to drink. He died in 1941 and it was her mother who brought her up. The ''Strike Witches'' mixed-media project features an extensive cast of characters created by Fumikane Shimada. The series takes place in an alternate Earth in the mid-20th century and revolves around a group of teenage girls who use machines equipped to their legs known as Striker Units to do aerial combat. The characters are named after real-life pilots whilst their Striker Units are based on actual aircraft.
