Eggomania
''Eggomania'' is an action video game released in January 1983 by U.S. Games for the Atari 2600. Similar in design to '' Kaboom!'', which itself is a derivative of the arcade game ''Avalanche'', the objective is to catch eggs in a hat which are thrown by a chicken. Gameplay At the end of each round, the player has a chance to throw the eggs they have caught back at the chicken for bonus points. The speed of the game increases as the player progresses. The game has two difficulties; the easier variation gives the player a larger hat for catching eggs. Reception ''Electronic Games'' in June 1983 called ''Eggomania'' "delightful," stating that the game improved on '' Kaboom!'' and ''Avalanche'' as a "fully-animated delight that might even eclipse its inspiration" with "state-of-the-art graphics on the 2600". Avalanche (video Game)
''Avalanche'' is an arcade video game designed by Dennis Koble and released by Atari, Inc. in 1978. The object is to catch falling rocks with a controllable set of paddles that diminish in number and size as the rocks fall faster and faster. The concept gained a much wider audience after Activision released an unauthorized adaptation in 1981 as '' Kaboom!'' for the Atari 2600. The only official home port of ''Avalanche'' is for the Atari 8-bit family. Gameplay ''Avalanche'' is for 1 or 2 players, alternating turns. There are six rows of rocks at the top of the screen. The game starts with a six-storied platform and the player loses one platform per row of rocks cleared. The player scores points for those rocks they prevent from reaching the ground. Kaboom! (video Game)
''Kaboom!'' is an action video game published in 1981 by Activision for the Atari VCS (renamed to the Atari 2600 in 1982). It was programmed by Larry Kaplan, and David Crane coded the overlaid sprites. The game was well received and sold over one million cartridges by 1983. ''Kaboom!'' is an unauthorized adaptation of the 1978 Atari, Inc. arcade video game ''Avalanche''. The gameplay of both is fundamentally the same, but ''Kaboom!'' was re-themed to be about a mad bomber instead of falling rocks. Ex-Atari programmer Larry Kaplan originally wanted to port Avalanche to the Atari 2600. In ''Avalanche'' all the boulders are lined up at the top which is difficult to accomplish on the 2600, so the design was adjusted. Atari 8-bit family and Atari 5200 ports followed in 1983. ''Chicken'' is a video game for the Atari 8-bit family written by Mike Potter and published by Synapse Software in 1982. The game is similar to the Atari arcade game ''Avalanche'', replacing the buckets and boulders with a hen trying to catch her eggs. Gameplay ''Chicken'' is conceptually a port of the 1978 arcade game ''Avalanche'', but with a number of twists. The player is in control of a chicken that can move horizontally back and forth along the bottom of the playfield, pushing a basket. At the top, a fox drops the chicken's eggs over a series of moving blocks. The eggs fall through gaps between the blocks, which randomize their final drop point.
