Effutu Municipal District
Effutu Municipal District is one of the twenty-two districts in Central Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Awutu/Effutu/Senya District in 1988, until the southwest part of the district was split off by a decree of president John Agyekum Kufuor on 29 February 2008 to create Awutu Senya District; thus the remaining part was elevated to municipal district assembly status to become Effutu Municipal District on that same year. The municipality is located in the southeast part of Central Region and has Winneba Winneba is a town and the capital of Effutu Municipal District in Central Region of South Ghana. Aboakyer Festival
The Aboakyer festival is a bushbuck hunting festival celebrated by the people of Winneba in the Central Region of Ghana. Overview The name ''Aboakyer'' translates as "hunting for game or animal" in the Fante dialect as spoken by the people of the Central Region. The institution of the festival was to commemorate the migration of ''Simpafo'' (traditional name given to the people of Winneba). The people migrated from the north-eastern African town of Timbuktu in the ancient Western Sudan Empire to their present land in the central coast of Ghana. John Agyekum Kufuor
John Kofi Agyekum Kufuor (born 8 December 1938) is a Ghanaian politician who served as the President of Ghana from 7 January 2001 to 7 January 2009. He was also Chairperson of the African Union from 2007 to 2008. Kufuor's career has been spent on the liberal-democratic side of Ghanaian politics, in the parties descended from the United Gold Coast Convention and the United Party.
