Edwin Corning Jr.
Edwin Corning Jr. (September 26, 1919 - January 31, 1964) was an American businessman, United States Navy officer and Democratic politician from Albany, New York. A member of the prominent Corning family, he was most notable for his service as a member of the New York State Assembly from 1955 to 1959. Biography Edwin Corning Jr. was born in Albany, New York on September 26, 1919, the son of Edwin Corning and Louise (Maxwell) Corning. He was educated at The Albany Academy and the Groton School and was a 1942 graduate of Yale College. Corning joined the United States Navy for World War II. He enlisted in 1942, and received a commission as an ensign. Corning participated in combat in the Pacific theater, and attained the rank of lieutenant before receiving his discharge in 1946. In January 1946, Corning's name appeared among a list of Navy officers who were passengers aboard USS '' LST 589'' when it sailed from Qingdao to Shanghai. Boght Corners (also referred to as Boght) is a hamlet in the town of Colonie in northern Albany County, New York, United States, that straddles U.S. Route 9 (Route 9). The corners that give the hamlet its name are found at the intersection of Route 9 and Boght Road ( NY Route 9R on leg east of hamlet), near the Boght Community Fire District's station. Albany Trust Company Building
The Albany Trust Company Building is a historic commercial building located at 35 State Street at the corner of Broadway in Albany, New York. It was built in 1904 and was designed by Marcus T. Reynolds in the Renaissance Revival style. Currently, it is the main offices of the Research Foundation for the State University of New York. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 as the First Trust Company Building. It is also a contributing property to the Downtown Albany Historic District. History and description The property at State Street and Broadway had been the site of a rounded building since the 1830s. In 1902, the Albany Trust Company asked prominent Albany architect Marcus T. Reynolds to design a new headquarters for the bank, and Reynolds decided that the new building would also be rounded. Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation was a New York State utility company, which was acquired in 2000 by National Grid plc. The Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation designation was retired, using variations of NationalGridUS (such as National Grid Buffalo), though its official designation on annual reports is still Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation. In 1929, 59 former companies were incorporated into the Niagara Hudson Power Corporation. In 1932 an Art Deco-style headquarters building was constructed in Syracuse. Ensign (; Late Middle English, from Old French (), from Latin (plural)) is a junior rank of a commissioned officer in the armed forces of some countries, normally in the infantry or navy.
