Eduardo Zalamea Borda
Eduardo Zalamea Borda (1907–1963) was a Colombian journalist and writer. He was born in Bogota, Colombia. After a suicide attempt in Barranquilla, he went to live in La Guajira for several years. One of the writers he promoted, Gabriel García Márquez, later recalled that Borda "anchored himself at Café Roma (a restaurant in Barranquilla), and shot himself in the chest with a revolver, without serious consequences". He came back to Bogota at the age of 21. He joined the newspaper ''La Tarde'' as a cub reporter. He went on to become editor at ''El Liberal'' and '' El Espectador'' newspapers. At the latter, he became known for promoting young writers. Barranquilla
Barranquilla () is the capital district of Atlántico Department in Colombia. La Guajira
La Guajira () is a department of Colombia. It occupies most of the Guajira Peninsula in the northeast region of the country, on the Caribbean Sea and bordering Venezuela, at the northernmost tip of South America. The capital city of the department is Riohacha. Various indigenous tribes have populated the arid plains of the region long before the Spanish expeditions reached the Americas. Gabriel García Márquez
Gabriel José de la Concordia García Márquez (; 6 March 1927 – 17 April 2014) was a Colombian novelist, short-story writer, screenwriter, and journalist, known affectionately as Gabo () or Gabito () throughout Latin America. Considered one of the most significant authors of the 20th century, particularly in the Hispanic literature, Spanish language, he was awarded the 1972 Neustadt International Prize for Literature and the 1982 Nobel Prize in Literature. ''El Espectador'' (meaning "The Spectator") is a newspaper with national circulation within Colombia, founded by Fidel Cano Gutiérrez on 22 March 1887 in Medellín and published since 1915 in Bogotá. It changed from a daily to a weekly edition in 2001, following a financial crisis, and became a daily again on 11 May 2008, a comeback which had been long rumoured, in tabloid format (28 x 39.5 cm).
