Edinburgh University Association Football Club are a football club representing the University of Edinburgh. Established in 1878, they are third oldest club in East of Scotland football and have been a member of the Scottish Football Association (SFA) since that year. Edinburgh University are eligible to compete in the Scottish Cup every season as they are full members of the SFA. The club's present home is at Peffermill, where it has played since its move from Canal Field in 1978. History A group describing itself as "The Edinburgh University Foot Ball Club" played three matches in 1851. On the 25th of January, it played against the 93rd regiment, awarding medals to the winning team of the Regiment. No further activity by the club was documented for over a decade. Edinburgh University Sports Union
Edinburgh University Sports Union (EUSU) is the representative body of sixty-seven University of Edinburgh sports clubs. Edinburgh University sports teams compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) and Scottish Student Sport leagues. Edinburgh was ranked 3rd in the BUCS rankings in 2017/18, 2016/17, 2015/16, 2014/15, 4th in 2018/19 and 2021/22, 5th in 2013/14, and 6th in 2012/13 and 2011/12. EUSU has a fantastic intramural sports programme. Football (men's and women's), basketball, hockey, netball, rugby, and squash are available, and fixtures are played weekly. Bye (sports)
In sport, a bye is the preferential status of a player or team that is automatically advanced to the next round of a tournament, without having to play an opponent in an early round. In knockout (elimination) tournaments they can be granted either to reward the highest ranked participant(s) or assigned randomly, to make a working bracket if the number of participants is not a power of two (e.g. 16 or 32). In round-robin tournaments, usually one competitor gets a bye in each round when there are an odd number of competitors, as it is impossible for all competitors to play in the same round. However, over the whole tournament, each plays the same number of games as well as sitting out for the same number of rounds. The 2016–17 Scottish Cup was the 132nd season of Scotland's most prestigious football knockout competition. The tournament was sponsored by bookmaker William Hill in what was the sixth season of a nine-year partnership, after contract negotiations saw the initial five-year contract extended for an additional four years in October 2015. The defending champions were Hibernian, who defeated Rangers in the 2016 final, but they were eliminated in the semi finals by Aberdeen. 2016–17 Lowland Football League
The 2016–17 Scottish Lowland Football League (known as the Ferrari Packaging Lowland League for sponsorship reasons) was the fourth season of the Lowland Football League, the fifth tier of the Scottish football pyramid system. Edinburgh City were the defending champions but could not defend their title after being promoted to Scottish League Two. East Stirlingshire became the first club to join the league via relegation from the SPFL, having lost the League Two play-off against Edinburgh City. Inverurie (Scottish Gaelic: ''Inbhir Uraidh'' or ''Inbhir Uaraidh'', 'mouth of the River Ury') is a town in Aberdeenshire, Scotland at the confluence of the rivers Ury and Don, about north-west of Aberdeen. Geography Inverurie is in the valley of the River Don at the centre of Aberdeenshire and is known locally as the Heart of the Garioch. Hurlford (Scottish Gaelic: ''Baile Àtha Cliath'') is a village in East Ayrshire, Scotland. It has a population of 4,968. Hurlford's former names include Whirlford and Hurdleford. The village was named Whirlford as a result of a ford crossing the River Irvine east of Hurlford Cross, near Shawhill. The Scottish Lowland Football League (SLFL, commonly known as the Lowland League) is a senior association football, football league based in central and southern Scotland. The league sits at level 5 on the Scottish football league system, acting as a feeder to the Scottish Professional Football League, and is above three regional leagues at level 6. The 2014–15 Lowland League was the second season of the Lowland Football League, the fifth tier of the Scottish football pyramid system. The season began on 2 August 2014 and ended on 13 May 2015. Spartans were the defending champions. The league expanded to 14 teams with Edinburgh University and BSC Glasgow joining. Cumbernauld Colts were elected to the league as new members. The league was won by Edinburgh City with two matches remaining on 9 April 2016, securing their second title after a 1–0 win over Stirling University. They played the champions of the 2015–16 Highland League ( Cove Rangers) in the semi-finals of the League Two play-offs, winning 4-1 on aggregate.
