Edinburgh University Sports Union
Edinburgh University Sports Union (EUSU) is the representative body of sixty-seven University of Edinburgh sports clubs. Edinburgh University sports teams compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) and Scottish Student Sport leagues. Edinburgh was ranked 3rd in the BUCS rankings in 2017/18, 2016/17, 2015/16, 2014/15, 4th in 2018/19 and 2021/22, 5th in 2013/14, and 6th in 2012/13 and 2011/12. EUSU has a fantastic intramural sports programme. Football (men's and women's), basketball, hockey, netball, rugby, and squash are available, and fixtures are played weekly. Structure EUSU is primarily run by an elected Executive Committee composed of 10 students. It is chaired by an elected Sabbatical President. Edinburgh University Boat Club
Edinburgh University Boat Club (EUBC) is one of the oldest sports clubs of the University of Edinburgh, in the city of Edinburgh, Scotland. Originally started in 1867 it has been going continuously ever since. The annual Edinburgh/Glasgow Boat Race first took place in 1877, ten years after the boat club started. As one of the largest rowing clubs in Scotland, it has over a hundred active members, with many crews competing at all levels. The club celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2017. The club is affiliated to Scottish Rowing. In May 2022, EUBC won the Victor Ludorum at the BUCS Regatta. Facilities and training The senior fleet is racked at Strathclyde Park, Scotland's purpose built regatta lake, where most water training takes place. Cricket Pitch
In the game of cricket, the cricket pitch consists of the central strip of the cricket field between the wickets. It is long (1 chain) and wide. The surface is flat and is normally covered with extremely short grass, but can be completely dry or dusty soil with barely any grass or, in some circumstances (that are rarely seen in high level cricket), made from an artificial material. Over the course of a cricket match, the pitch is not repaired or altered other than in special circumstances - meaning that it will change condition. Any grass on the pitch in the game's first over, for example, may have disappeared by twentieth over due to wear. Shinty
Shinty ( gd, camanachd, iomain) is a team game played with sticks and a ball. Shinty is now played mainly in the Scottish Highlands and amongst Highland migrants to the big cities of Scotland, but it was formerly more widespread in Scotland, and was even played in northern England into the second half of the 20th century and other areas in the world where Scottish Highlanders migrated. While comparisons are often made with field hockey the two games have several important differences. In shinty a player is allowed to play the ball in the air and is allowed to use both sides of the stick, called a ''caman'', which is wooden and slanted on both sides. The stick may also be used to block and to tackle, although a player may not come down on an opponent's stick, a practice called hacking. Lacrosse is a team sport played with a lacrosse stick and a lacrosse ball. It is the oldest organized sport in North America, with its origins with the indigenous people of North America as early as the 12th century.
