East Portland was a city in the U.S. state of Oregon that was consolidated into Portland in 1891. The ''Vallejo'' is a houseboat in Sausalito, California, United States. It was originally a passenger ferry in Portland, Oregon, known as ''O&CRR Ferry No. 2'', in the late 19th century. The history of the city of Portland, Oregon, began in 1843 when business partners William Overton and Asa Lovejoy filed to claim land on the west bank of the Willamette River in Oregon Country. In 1845 the name of Portland was chosen for this community by coin toss. February 8, 1851, the city was incorporated. Portland has continued to grow in size and population, with the 2010 Census showing 583,776 residents in the city. Early history The land today occupied by Multnomah County, Oregon, was inhabited for centuries by two bands of Upper Chinook Indians. The Multnomah people settled on and around Sauvie Island and the Cascades Indians settled along the Columbia Gorge. Ladd's Addition is an inner southeast historic district of Portland, Oregon, United States. It is Portland's oldest planned residential development, and one of the oldest in the western United States. The district is known in Portland for a diagonal street pattern, which is at odds with the rectilinear grid of the surrounding area. Albina, Oregon
Albina is a historical American city that was consolidated into Portland, Oregon in 1891. The land the City of Albina would later be built on was claimed by J.L. Losing and Joseph Delay under the U.S. Donation Land Claim Act of 1850. The land was then sold to William Winter Page. In 1872, Page sold the land to George Henry Williams and Edwin Russell, who laid out the original town site. Williams and Russell named the City of Albina for Page's wife and daughter, both of whom were named Albina. In 1874, Russell went bankrupt and left Oregon for San Francisco. James Montgomery and William Reid then acquired the property and started residential development. As of 1880, the population of Albina was 143 people. The city was incorporated in 1887 and by 1888, Albina's population was 3,000.
