East Olympos
East Olympos, or Anatolikos Olympos ( el, Ανατολικός Όλυμπος, '','' ), is a former municipality in Pieria regional unit, Greece. In Greece's 2011 local government reform East Olympos became a municipal unit of the municipality Dion-Olympos. The municipal unit has an area of and a population 8,343 (2011). The seat of the former ''East Olympos municipality'' was in Leptokarya. Central Macedonia
Central Macedonia ( el, Κεντρική Μακεδονία, Kentrikí Makedonía, ) is one of the thirteen administrative regions of Greece, consisting of the central part of the geographical and historical region of Macedonia. With a population of almost 1.8 million, it is the second most populous in Greece after Attica. Geography The region of Central Macedonia is situated in northern Greece, bordering with the regions of Western Macedonia (west), Thessaly (south), Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (east), and bounded to the north at the international borders of Greece with Republic of North Macedonia and Bulgaria. Beach Of Panteleimon
Paralia Panteleimonos () is a settlement of the former municipal district of Panteleimonas, the former municipality of East Olympos, which belongs to the municipality of Dio-Olympos, and is one of the 16 total coast of the regional unit. It is about 36 km from Katerini, 56 km from Larissa and is southeast of the county. According to recent archaeological excavations in the area during the construction of the railway tunnel under the castle, were findings of ancient Greek town Ηράκλεια (Heracleia). There is a summer residence of the inhabitants of Neos Panteleimonas and tourist resort, which is flooded with tourists during the period May and June. It is located just below of the castle of Platamon, and for this reason sometimes is called "Κάστρο", ''Kastro'' (Castle). The coastal beach is 3 km. Ano Skotina
Ano Skotina () is an old settlement of the prefecture of Pieria. It is built on an altitude of 600 m on the southeastern side of Mount Olympus. It has hotels, taverns, restaurants, and offers every form of alternative tourism like mountain riding, climbing, hiking etc. Cultural events of the settlement is the celebration of the Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos (Κοίμηση της Θεοτόκου), every year on August 15. Skotina
Skotina () is a rural settlement of the former municipality of East Olympos, itself part of the municipality of Dion-Olympos, in the Pieria regional unit, Central Macedonia, Greece. Name The name is taken due to handmade costumes (woolen fabrics, handmade costumes), which were made in the region that made the cloaks and the sails for sailing ships of the era. Geography The village is built on the southeastern edge of the mount Olympus, 32 km from the city of Katerini, and has a view towards the Thermaic Gulf. Ancient places nearby are Herakleion (4 km) and Leivithra (2 km). Population The community of Skotina had a population 949 inhabitants as of 2011. Neoi Poroi ( ) is a coastal village of the Dio-Olympos municipality. Before the 2011 local government reform it was part of the municipality of East Olympos. The settlement of Neoi Poroi had a population of 733 inhabitants as of 2011. Neoi Poroi is a part of the community of Poroi. The main occupation in the village is tourism. Poroi
Poroi ( el, Πόροι) is a village and a Communities and Municipalities of Greece, community of the Dio-Olympos, Dio-Olympos municipality. Before the 2011 local government reform it was part of the municipality of East Olympos, of which it was a municipal district. The 2011 census recorded 770 inhabitants in the community. The community of Poroi covers an area of 26.889 km2. Platamon
Platamon, or Platamonas (, ''Platamónas''), is a town and sea-side resort in south Pieria, Central Macedonia, Greece. Platamon has a population of about 2,000 permanent inhabitants. It is part of the Municipal unit of East Olympos of the Dio-Olympos municipality. History The ancient settlement Herakleion was situated near the present town Platamon. In 169 BC. the Romans took their military camp on the plain between Herakleion and ancient Leivithra to start their campaign against Macedonia. Pieria ( el, Πιερία) is one of the regional units of Greece located in the southern part of the Region of Central Macedonia, within the historical province of Macedonia.
