Ano Skotina
Ano Skotina () is an old settlement of the prefecture of Pieria. It is built on an altitude of 600 m on the southeastern side of Mount Olympus. It has hotels, taverns, restaurants, and offers every form of alternative tourism like mountain riding, climbing, hiking etc. Cultural events of the settlement is the celebration of the Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos (Κοίμηση της Θεοτόκου), every year on August 15. Mount Olympus
Mount Olympus (; el, Όλυμπος, Ólympos, also , ) is the highest mountain in Greece. It is part of the Olympus massif near the Thermaic Gulf of the Aegean Sea, located in the Olympus Range on the border between Thessaly and Macedonia, between the regional units of Larissa and Pieria, about southwest from Thessaloniki. Mount Olympus has 52 peaks and deep gorges. The highest peak, Mytikas (Μύτικας ''Mýtikas''), meaning "nose", rises to . It is one of the highest peaks in Europe in terms of topographic prominence. Dormition Of The Theotokos
The Dormition of the Mother of God is a Great Feast of the Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, and Eastern Catholic Churches (except the East Syriac churches). It celebrates the "falling asleep" (death) of Mary the ''Theotokos'' ("Mother of God", literally translated as ''God-bearer''), and her being taken up into heaven (bodily assumption). It is celebrated on 15 August (28 August N.S. in the Julian Calendar) as the Feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God. The Armenian Apostolic Church celebrates the Dormition not on a fixed date, but on the Sunday nearest 15 August. Skotina
Skotina () is a rural settlement of the former municipality of East Olympos, itself part of the municipality of Dion-Olympos, in the Pieria regional unit, Central Macedonia, Greece. Name The name is taken due to handmade costumes (woolen fabrics, handmade costumes), which were made in the region that made the cloaks and the sails for sailing ships of the era. Geography The village is built on the southeastern edge of the mount Olympus, 32 km from the city of Katerini, and has a view towards the Thermaic Gulf. Ancient places nearby are Herakleion (4 km) and Leivithra (2 km). Population The community of Skotina had a population 949 inhabitants as of 2011. The community consists of the settlements of Skotina, Paralia Skotinas and the nowadays uninhabited Palia Skotina.
