Pieria (regional Unit)
Pieria ( el, Πιερία) is one of the regional units of Greece located in the southern part of the Region of Central Macedonia, within the historical province of Macedonia. Its capital is the town of Katerini.The name Pieria originates from the ancient Pieres tribe. In Pieria, there are many sites of archeological interest, such as Dion, Pydna, Leivithra and Platamonas. Leptokarya ( el, Λεπτοκαρυά, ''Leptokaryá'') is a town in Pieria regional unit, Central Macedonia, Greece, former seat of East Olympos municipality, which is part of the municipality of Dion-Olympos. Paralia Panteleimonos
Paralia Panteleimonos () is a settlement of the former municipal district of Panteleimonas, the former municipality of East Olympos, which belongs to the municipality of Dio-Olympos, and is one of the 16 total coast of the regional unit. It is about 36 km from Katerini, 56 km from Larissa and is southeast of the county. According to recent archaeological excavations in the area during the construction of the railway tunnel under the castle, were findings of ancient Greek town Ηράκλεια (Heracleia). There is a summer residence of the inhabitants of Neos Panteleimonas and tourist resort, which is flooded with tourists during the period May and June. Skotina () is a rural settlement of the former municipality of East Olympos, itself part of the municipality of Dion-Olympos, in the Pieria regional unit, Central Macedonia, Greece. Name The name is taken due to handmade costumes (woolen fabrics, handmade costumes), which were made in the region that made the cloaks and the sails for sailing ships of the era. Geography The village is built on the southeastern edge of the mount Olympus, 32 km from the city of Katerini, and has a view towards the Thermaic Gulf. The Platamon Castle ( el, Κάστρο του Πλαταμώνα), an important part of the history of Pieria, is a Crusader castle (built between 1204 and 1222) in northern Greece (Macedonia) and is located southeast of Mount Olympus, in a strategic position which controls the exit of the Tempe valley, through which passes the main road connecting Macedonia with Thessaly and southern Greece.
