Rutherglen and Hamilton West is a burgh constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, which was created for the 2005 general election. It covers almost all of the former constituency of Glasgow Rutherglen and most of the former constituency of Hamilton South, and it elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first-past-the-post system of election. The current MP is Margaret Ferrier, an independent, who won the seat at the 2019 snap general election. She had previously held the seat from 2015 to 2017. Thorntonhall ( sco, Thorntounhauch, gd, Dail Bhaile Dhealgaiche) is an affluent village in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, lying around to the south of Glasgow, and around west of East Kilbride. Jackton
Jackton is a small village lying just beyond the western periphery of East Kilbride in South Lanarkshire, on the B764 road (otherwise known as the 'Eaglesham Road') connecting it to the village of Eaglesham. It is also adjacent to Thorntonhall, and the two villages share a newsletter, the ''Peel News'', derived from the name of the road connecting the two. The settlement has recently been encroached upon by new build housing on the outskirts of East Kilbride. It lies approximately above sea level. It is also the site of one of the two Scottish Training Centres for Police Scotland. The area is served by Thorntonhall railway station, which is around away, and Hairmyres railway station, which is around away. The Gill Burn runs through the outskirts of the settlement. Kirkmuirhill is a village in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It borders Blackwood, near Lanark and is sited near Junction 9 of the M74 motorway. Its postal sector is ML11 9. History In 1810 John Begg, husband of Robert Burns youngest sister Isabella, became the land steward for Mr James Hope Vere MP on his estate at Blackwood. On 24 April 1813, after nearly three years at Blackwood, John met his death when his horse reared and fell on him, crushing him to death. He was returning from his regular trip to Lesmahagow market on a horse that he had been asked to ride because it had become fractious due to lack of exercise. Drumclog is a small village in South Lanarkshire, Parish of Avendale and Drumclog, Scotland. The habitation is situated on the A71, between Caldermill and Priestland in East Ayrshire at a height of 196.7m and about 5 miles west of Strathaven. History Drumclog is best known as the site of the 1679 Battle of Drumclog that took place on Drumclog Moss in which the Covenanters defeated the King's Dragoons who were under the command of Claverhouse. The Lochgoin Covenanters Museum on Whitelee Moor in Fenwick Parish has displays and artifacts from the battle. A monument is located on the site of the battle. Chapelton is a small village in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. The village is located approximately halfway between the towns of East Kilbride and Strathaven, on the A726. It resides in the former parish of Glassford, which takes its name from the nearby village of the same name. History In 1854, an archaeological visit to the village indicated that there seemed to have been a chapel on the banks of Chapelton, but no remains of buildings were seen at the spot indicated, except for a font which was dug up there many years previous. Nearby was the chapel well which has since been filled in. The site is known only by tradition. However, more recent excavations have failed to find any remains of this chapel, the site of which is in a cultivated field and is crossed by a cart track. Stones forming the field boundary show no signs of having been worked. Caldermill is a small settlement in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. Caldermill is south-west of Strathaven, and is the next settlement a driver will come across after leaving Strathaven on the A71 westbound towards Kilmarnock. Caldermill is a hamlet of just a few houses. Blackwood is a village which borders Kirkmuirhill, near Lanark in the central belt of Scotland. It has a few small shops, a Roman Catholic church and a couple of primary schools.
