Earth (American Band)
Earth is an American experimental rock band based in Olympia, Washington, formed in 1989 and led by the guitarist Dylan Carlson (musician), Dylan Carlson. Earth's music is nearly all instrumental rock, instrumental, and can be divided into two distinct stages. Their early work is characterized by distortion (music), distortion, Drone music, droning, minimalism, and lengthy, repetitive song structures. Owing to their 1993 debut album ''Earth 2 (album), Earth 2'', Earth is recognized as a pioneer of drone metal. The band resurfaced in the early 2000s, with their later output reducing the distortion and incorporating elements of country music, country, jazz rock, and folk music, folk. Adrienne Davies
Adrienne Davies is the current drummer and percussionist of the drone metal band Earth. Davies is credited as drummer on several of Earth's albums. They range from '' Living in the Gleam of an Unsheathed Sword'' (2005) and for drums, percussion, and wind chimes on ''Hex (Or Printing in the Infernal Method)'' (2005). She has since played on its album '' Hibernaculum'', as well as ''Altar''—the Sunn O))) and Boris collaboration—which also features other members of Earth. She was also the drummer for their most recent album, '' Full Upon Her Burning Lips'', released in 2019. Davies has stated that she was a fan of Earth before her debut. Her drumming style was heavily influenced by Dylan Carlson's pioneering drone metal sound with Michael McDaniel as the band's drummer in the 1990s. Melvins
Melvins (sometimes The Melvins) are an American rock band formed in 1983 in Montesano, Washington. Their early work was key to the development of both grunge and sludge metal. Initially, they performed as a trio but later also sometimes appeared as a quartet, with either two drummers or two bassists. Since 1984, vocalist and guitarist Buzz Osborne and drummer Dale Crover have been constant members. The band was named after a supervisor at a Thriftway in Montesano, where Osborne also worked as a clerk; "Melvin" was disliked by other employees, and the band's members felt it to be an appropriately ridiculous name. Distortion (music)
Distortion and overdrive are forms of audio signal processing used to alter the sound of amplified electric musical instruments, usually by increasing their gain, producing a "fuzzy", "growling", or "gritty" tone. Distortion is most commonly used with the electric guitar, but may also be used with other electric instruments such as electric bass, electric piano, synthesizer and Hammond organ. Guitarists playing electric blues originally obtained an overdriven sound by turning up their vacuum tube-powered guitar amplifiers to high volumes, which caused the signal to distort. Experimental Rock
Experimental rock, also called avant-rock, is a subgenre of rock music that pushes the boundaries of common composition and performance technique or which experiments with the basic elements of the genre. Karl Blau is an American indie rock and country vocalist, producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but originally from Anacortes, Washington. Slim Moon
Matthew "Slim" Moon (born October 15, 1967) is an American musician and the founder of the American independent music label Kill Rock Stars (KRS). He also started its sister label, 5 Rue Christine. Slim ran KRS from 1991 to 2006, during which time KRS released albums by dozens of artists including Sleater-Kinney, Elliott Smith, The Decemberists, Miranda July, Bikini Kill, Unwound, Huggy Bear, The Gossip, and Linda Perry. Kevin Richard Martin, often known under his recording alias The Bug, is an English musician and music producer. Martin moved from Weymouth to London around 1990 and is now currently based in mainland Europe. He has been active for over two decades in the genres of dub, jazzcore, industrial hip hop, dancehall, and dubstep. Bill Frisell
William Richard Frisell (born March 18, 1951) is an American jazz guitarist, composer and arranger. Frisell first came to prominence at ECM Records in the 1980s, as both a session player and a leader.
