Outpunk Records
Outpunk enjoys the distinction of being the first record label entirely devoted to queer punk bands. The label was run out of San Francisco and began as an extension of Matt Wobensmith's fanzine, ''Outpunk''. ''Outpunk'' ran for seven issues, from 1992 till 1997, with contributions from queer punks such as Anonymous Boy, interviews with queercore bands and a split issue with Gary Fembot. He released two records in 1992, the 7" single compilations ''There's A Faggot In The Pit'' and ''There's A Dyke In The Pit''. At this time there were few actual queercore bands in existence, so some of the artists that appeared were politically motivated punk bands that supported the queercore movement. ''There's A Dyke In The Pit'' features Bikini Kill, Lucy Stoners, 7 Year Bitch and the first song released by Tribe 8, stalwarts of the queercore scene. Outpunk's next compilation was the ''Outpunk Dance Party'' compilation LP/CD, which introduced many new queer bands to the public. Among them ...

Hydra Head Records
Hydra Head Records was an independent record label specializing in extreme metal music, founded in New Mexico by Aaron Turner (the frontman of Isis) in 1993. It had another imprint, Hydra Head Noise Industries, which specialized in experimental and noise music. Turner announced he was winding the label down in 2012. In 2020, the label removed its catalog from Spotify and returned its album rights back to several artists. History Hydra Head was founded in 1993 as a distribution company while Turner was still in high school. In 1995, he moved to Boston to attend art school. In late 1995, he was handed a demo by Wichita Kansas band Vent. That seven-inch single would be the first record released on Hydra Head. The label grew to accommodate local bands such as Roswell, Corrin, Piebald, and Converge, and after Turner graduated from college in 1999, it became a full-time endeavor. In 2011, Hydra Head relocated to Los Angeles, California, from its former home in Boston, Massachusetts. S ...

Kill Rock Stars
Kill Rock Stars is an independent record label founded in February 1991 by Slim Moon and Tinuviel Sampson, and based in both Olympia, Washington, and Portland, Oregon. The label has released a variety of work in different genres, but it was originally known for its commitment to underground punk rock bands and the Olympia area music scene. History Sampson and Moon initially started the label because, in Moon's words, "I just wanted to put out my friends' records because nobody was putting out my friends' records. And to put out spoken word 7-inch records." KRS-101 (the label's first release) was in fact a split 7-inch spoken-word record with Kathleen Hanna and Slim Moon; other "Wordcore" releases followed. The first major release was a compilation of Olympia-area bands simply titled '' Kill Rock Stars'' ('' Stars Kill Rock'' and ''Rock Stars Kill'' would follow in the same compilation series) and featured Bikini Kill, Bratmobile, Unwound, Nirvana, Mecca Normal, Heavens to B ...

The album was the band's major label debut after releasing their previous albums through the independent label Boner Records. The album features a cover of the 1974 Kiss song "Goin' Blind". The songs "Hooch", "Lizzy", and "Honey Bucket" were released as singles with accompanying music videos. "Night Goat" is a partial re-recording of a song the band had released as a single in 1992. Nirvana's Kurt Cobain is given co-production credit alongside the Melvins on six tracks, for guitar on the song "Sky Pup" and percussion on the song "Spread Eagle Beagle". Joe Preston (EP)
''Joe Preston'' is an EP by then-Melvins bassist Joe Preston, released in 1992 through Boner Records. It is believed that he is the only performer on the record and that the other two performers are a hoax; "Salty Green" is a known pseudonym of Preston, also seen on the " Night Goat" single. Denial Fiend was a pseudonym for Martin Ain who was in the band Hellhammer. The cover art for the album is a parody of the cover art from Ace Frehley's 1978 solo album. The credit for Marina Sirtis as "Counselor" is a reference to the actress that played Counselor Deanna Troi on the television series '' Star Trek: The Next Generation''. Joe Preston is credited for vocals albeit the whole album is instrumental, intermixed with several voice clips sourced from elsewhere. Buzz Osborne has gone on record to say this is one of his least favorite Melvins releases, according to a CMJ New Music article in 2005: Track listing Personnel * Joe Preston – vocals, mixing *Denial Fiend – Helli ...
