The Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL) is a committee of the European Parliament. It is responsible for issues of employment and social policy, including labour rights, social security, inclusion, free movement for workers and pensioners, professional and vocational training, the European Social Fund, and employment discrimination law. During the Ninth European Parliament (2019–2024), the committee has 55 members. Since 24 January 2022, it is chaired by Dragoș Pîslaru from Romania. Committees Of The European Parliament
The committees of the European Parliament are designed to aid the European Commission in initiating legislation. Standing committees are made up of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), who are directly elected to the seats in the European Parliament by the electorate. Each committee has a chairman and four vice-chairmen, along with numerous committee members. Each committee also has substitute members. Reports are usually compiled by a rapporteur, who is appointed by the chairman of the committee, selected from amongst the members or permanent substitutes. Dragoș Pîslaru
Dragoș Pîslaru is a Romanian economist and politician of REPER who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament since 2019. He was previously a member of USR PLUS/USR. He also held the position of Minister of Labor, Family, Social Protection and the Elderly in the government of Prime Minister Dacian Cioloș from 18 April 2016, until 4 January 2017. Early life and education Pîslaru is a graduate of the Faculty of International Economic Relations within the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest (October 1994 – September 1998) with a bachelor's degree in International Economics. The Movement for Rights and Freedoms ( bg, Движение за права и свободи ''Dvizhenie za prava i svobodi'', ДПС, DPS; tr, Hak ve Özgürlükler Hareketi, HÖH) is a centrist political party in Bulgaria with a support base among ethnic minority communities. Atidzhe Alieva-Veli ( bg, Атидже Алиева-Вели) (born 1981) is a Bulgarian politician of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament since 2019. Early life and education Alieva-Veli was born on 18 September in Devin, but grew up in Borino. After finishing school, she studied biotechnology for a bachelor's degree until 2003, followed by a degree in industrial biotechnology at Sofia University until 2005. Katrin Langensiepen (born 10 October 1979) is a German politician of the Alliance 90/The Greens who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament since the 2019 elections. Langensiepen is the first women Member of the European Parliament with a visible disability.
