Ethio Electric Sport Club (Amharic: ኢትዮ ኤሌክትሪክ ስፖርት ክለብ), also known as EEPCO or Mebrat Hail, is an Ethiopian football club based in Addis Ababa. The club currently plays in the Ethiopian Higher League, the second division of Ethiopian football. History Beginnings Ethio-Electric was found as Ethiopian Electric Power Sport Club in 1960 (1953 EC.) by the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation. The Ethiopian Premier League ( Amharic:የኢትዮጵያ ፕሪምየር ሊግ), known as the BetKing Ethiopian Premier League for sponsorship reasons, is the top tier association football league of Ethiopia run by the Ethiopian Premier League Share Company (formerly the Ethiopian Football Federation from 1997 to 2020). The Addis Ababa City Cup (Amharic: አዲስ አበባ ከተማ ዋንጫ) is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic Ethiopian Football. The tournament is organized by the Addis Ababa Football Federation. The 2016–17 Ethiopian Premier League is the 70th season of top-tier football in Ethiopia as well as the 19th season of the Premier League. The season began play on 12 November 2016. Saint George SC are the defending champions, having won their 25th championship. The top flight has been expanded to 16-teams up from 14, and is expected to be more competitive and exciting with more matches to play. The bottom three finishers will be relegated to the Ethiopian Super League for 2017-18. The Ethiopian Higher League (Amharic: የኢትዮጵያ ከፍተኛ ሊግ), also called the Ethiopian Super League, is the second division of association football in Ethiopia. Regulated by the Ethiopian Football Federation, the league is divided into three groups (Group A, Group B, and Group C) with 12 clubs in each group. It operates on a system of promotion and relegation along with the Ethiopian Premier League (first division) and the Ethiopian First League (third division). The champions of Group A, B, and C will be automatically promoted to the Premier League.
