Dönme Dolap (film)
Turkey took part in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981. The country was represented by Ayşegül Aldinç and a trio named Modern Folk Üçlüsü with the song "Dönme Dolap" written and composed by Ali Kocatepe. Before Eurovision 5. Eurovision Şarkı Yarışması Türkiye Finali The final took place on 14 February 1981 at the TRT Studios in Ankara, hosted by Bülend Özveren. Six songs competed and the winner was determined by a jury consisting of members of the public. At Eurovision On the night of the contest Ayşegül Aldinç and Modern Folk Üçlüsü performed second in the running order following Austria and preceding Germany. At the close of the voting the song received 9 points, thus Dönme Dolap shared 18th place with Portugal. Turkish jury awarded 12 points to Germany. Modern Folk Üçlüsü
Modern Folk Üçlüsü ("Modern Folklore Trio") is a Turkish music trio. As the name implies, their main source is Turkish folklore songs (Türkü). Early years The group was founded in July 1969 by Doğan Canku, Ahmet Kurtaran and Selami Karaibrahimgil. In the same year they accompanied Esin Afşar in her song ''Bebek''. In 1970, they began to produce their own records. In 1971 September two members of the group got married and they temporarily put a halt to their activities. Beginning by the end of 1972 however they resumed their activities. Their new LP of 1973 included arranged form of Turkish art music and an example of Western music as well as their conventional genre. Also in 1973 they participated in singing a multi singer melody ''Arkadaş Dur Bekle'' (Turkish version of Auntie) and ''Kim Ayırdı Sevenleri'', Turkish version of Une Belle Histoire, Michel Fugain's famous song together with Tanju Okan and Nilüfer. Ayşegül Aldinç
Ayşegül Aldinç (; born 28 September 1957) is a Turkish singer and actress. Life and career She is the daughter of journalist and sports writer Orhan Aldinç and painting teacher Süheyla Aldinç. Growing in Cihangir, Due to the works of her mother, she completed her secondary education at the schools in Taksim, Kocamustafapaşa and Feriköy districts. She finished her high school at the Sultanahmet Art School. She finished her studies at Tatbiki Fine Arts Academy Ceramic Department (now called Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts Ceramics Department). Shortly after her graduation, she worked as an artist at Anafartalar Middle School, and then as a music teacher at Akaretler Middle School in Istanbul. Aldinç later went to Ankara and participated in the Eurovision's primary competitions on TRT at that time and qualified to represent Turkey. Eurovision Song Contest 1981
The Eurovision Song Contest 1981 was the 26th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Dublin, Ireland, following the country's victory at the with the song "What's Another Year" by Johnny Logan. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster (RTÉ), the contest was held at the RDS Simmonscourt on 4 April 1981, and was hosted by Irish television journalist Doireann Ní Bhriain. Twenty countries participated in the contest, equalling the record of the 1978 edition. Cyprus made their début this year, while Israel and Yugoslavia both returned to the competition, after their one-year and five-year absences, respectively. Bülend Özveren
Bülend Özveren (1943 – 18 October 2022) was a Turkish television presenter and sports commentator. Özveren completed his secondary education at (Istanbul) and higher education at Galatasaray High School. He graduated from Istanbul University, faculty of Law. Özveren started working at TRT on 31 July 1965, first as a television presenter before becoming the sports commentator in 1972. From 1973 to 2012, he intermittently served as the Turkish commentator for the Eurovision Song Contest. Özveren spoke English, Japanese, Spanish and French, as well as his native Turkish. Kayahan
Kayahan Açar (29 March 1949 – 3 April 2015) was a Turkish pop music singer-songwriter. He was an accomplished composer, consistently ranking among the best-selling Turkish musicians of all time. Kayahan composed all of his own material and released more than eight best-selling albums during a career spanning three decades. Kayahan released a number of compact cassettes, CDs and albums and had major singles. He represented Turkey in Eurovision Song Contest 1990 with "Gözlerinin Hapsindeyim". Aydın Esen (born 1962) is a Turkish jazz musician who plays keyboards and electronics. Career The son of a trumpeter, Esen began music lessons at the age of five in Turkey and attended a music conservatory, continuing for 13 years. His background was in classical music although he also enjoyed playing drums. At the age of ten, he began sneaking out of school to play with other musicians and as a teenager he led several groups in a variety of styles. Esen first came to the United States when he was awarded a four-year scholarship to Berklee College of Music where he reportedly completed all of his classes within one year. Füsun Önal (born 11 March 1947, Kadıköy, Istanbul, Turkey) is a Turkish pop singer, theatre actress, and writer. Biography Önal's father was a soldier in the Turkish army; her mother was a housewife. Füsun grew up in Ankara. During her childhood, she played the mandolin and accordion. She also had private piano lessons, and studied classical music. Önal graduated from the TED Ankara College and studied English philology at Ankara University. During her college years, she sang with the Erol Pekcan Jazz Orchestra.
