Drexel University School Of Public Health
The Drexel University Dornsife School of Public Health is a part of the Drexel University Health Sciences network of schools. The Dornsife School of Public Health was located in downtown Philadelphia from its inception until December 2013. It has since re-located to the University City Campus. The Dornsife School of Public Health was founded in 1996, with Jonathan Mann as its first dean. In 2000, the School came under the operational management of Drexel University and in 2002 fully joined the University's Health Sciences network, where it was physically located until early 2014 within the Center City Hahnemann Campus, alongside the Drexel University College of Medicine and the Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Professions. Jonathan Mann (WHO Official)
Jonathan Max Mann (July 30, 1947 – September 2, 1998) was an American physician who was an administrator for the World Health Organization, and spearheaded early AIDS research in the 1980s. Education Mann was president of the National Honor Society in the Newton South High School class of 1965. He earned his B.A. ''magna cum laude'' from Harvard College, his M.D. from Washington University in St. Louis in 1974, and the degree of M.P.H. from the Harvard School of Public Health in 1980. Career Mann joined the Centers for Disease Control in 1975, staying there until 1977 when he became the State Epidemiologist for New Mexico, until 1984. He moved to Zaire in March 1984 as a founder of Project SIDA, an effort to study AIDS in Africa, after being recruited by fellow epidemiologist Joseph B. McCormick. Hahnemann University Hospital was a tertiary care center in Center City Philadelphia. It was the teaching hospital of Drexel University College of Medicine. Established in 1885, it was for most of its history the main teaching hospital associated with its namesake medical school, Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital, founded in 1848 and named for Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy. David H. Dornsife (born c. 1944) is an American businessman and philanthropist from California. He serves as the Chairman of the Herrick Corporation, a steel corporation. With his wife, Dana Dornsife, he donated US$200 million to his alma mater, the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California, where the Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences was named in their honor.
