Drew Endy
Andrew (Drew) David Endy (born 1970) is a synthetic biologist and tenured associate professor of bioengineering at Stanford University, California. Education and Work History Endy received his PhD from Dartmouth College in 1997 for his work on genetic engineering using T7 phage. Endy was a junior fellow for 3 years and later an Assistant Professor of Biological Engineering at MIT, from 2002-2008. In 2008, Endy moved to Stanford University, where he currently serves as an Associate Professor of Bioengineering. Research With Thomas Knight, Gerald Jay Sussman, Randy Rettberg, and others at MIT, Endy worked on synthetic biology and the engineering of standardized biological components, devices, and parts, collectively known as BioBricks.From the cells up

Synthetic biology (SynBio) is a multidisciplinary area of research that seeks to create new biological parts, devices, and systems, or to redesign systems that are already found in nature. Registry Of Standard Biological Parts
The Registry of Standard Biological Parts is a collection of genetic parts that are used in the assembly of systems and devices in synthetic biology. The registry was founded in 2003 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The registry, as of 2018, contains over 20,000 parts. Recipients of the genetic parts include academic labs, established scientists, and student teams participating in International Genetically Engineered Machine, the iGEM Foundation's annual synthetic biology competition. The Registry of Standard Biological Parts conforms to the BioBrick standard, a standard for interchangeable genetic parts. BioBrick was developed by a nonprofit composed of researchers from MIT, Harvard, and University of California, San Francisco, UCSF. The registry offers genetic parts with the expectation that recipients will contribute data and new parts to improve the resource.
