Douliu
Douliu (Hokkien POJ: ''Táu-la̍k'') is a county-administered city and the county seat of Yunlin County, Taiwan. It is also the political and economic center of the county. Douliu City is served by National Highway No. 3. Name Its former name () came from a language of the Hoanya people, a tribe of the Taiwanese plains aborigines. History Empire of Japan In 1901, during Japanese rule, was one of twenty local administrative offices established. In 1909, part of Toroku was merged into , while the remainder was merged with . In 1920, was established and governed under , Tainan Prefecture. Toroku Town covered modern-day Douliu and Linnei Township. Republic of China On 25 December 1981, Douliu was upgraded from an urban township to county-administered city. Yunlin County
Yunlin County (Mandarin pinyin: ''Yúnlín Xiàn''; Taigi POJ: ''Hûn-lîm-koān''; Hakka PFS: ''Yùn-lìm-yen'') is a county in western Taiwan. Yunlin County borders the Taiwan Strait to the west, Nantou County to the east, Changhua County to the north at the Zhuoshui River, and Chiayi County to the south at the Beigang River. Yunlin is part of the Chianan Plain, a flat land known for its agriculture. Agricultural products of Yunlin County include pomelo, tea leaves, suan cai, papaya and muskmelon. Yunlin's rivers give it potential for hydroelectricity. Douliu is the largest and capital city of Yunlin. It is the only county on the main island of Taiwan where no city with the same name exists. House Of Citizen-Memorial Hall Of Attendance
The House of Citizen-Memorial Hall of Attendance () is a hall in Douliu City, Yunlin County, Taiwan. History Empire of Japan The establishment of the hall originated from the Crown Prince Hirohito's visit to Taiwan in 1923. The construction of the hall was initiated by Wu Keming, with funds he raised from community donations and government funds. Construction was completed in 1926. The hall then served as a commemoration for the Crown Prince's visit. It also became a public gathering venue for residents for meetings, seminars, banquets, and performances. Republic of China After the handover of Taiwan from Japan to the Republic of China in 1945, the building was leased to several companies such as ''Groundwater Company'', ''Chiayi Motor Vehicle Office Douliu Subdivision'', and ''Public Employees Mart''. Douliu Baseball Stadium
The Douliou Baseball Stadium () is a baseball stadium in Douliu City, Yunlin County, Taiwan. It was opened in 2005 and has a capacity of 15,000 people. Yunlin County Council
The Yunlin County Council (YLCC; ) is the elected county council of Yunlin County, Republic of China. The council composes of 43 councilors lastly elected through the 2018 Republic of China local election on 24 November 2018. History The current county council building was completed and started its operation on 27 September 2001. Architecture The county council building has a 1,090 m2 area of session room. Hushan Dam
The Hushan Dam () is a dam in Douliu City, Yunlin County, Taiwan. It is the newest dam in Taiwan. History and objectives The planning of the dam started already in 1979 and but was approved by Executive Yuan only in 2001. The stated goals of the dam are to "improve both quantity and quality for the domestic water supply in Yunlin County, reduce abstraction of ground water, slow down subsidence and improve environmental quality". Land subsidence, associated with groundwater extraction, has been a problem particularly in Yunlin. Critics maintain that industry needs motivated the dam. The construction of the dam started in 2002 by Continental Engineering Corporation. However, the construction was delayed for three times due to environmental and historical site preservation issues. 2007 Baseball World Cup
The 2007 Baseball World Cup (BWC) was the 37th international Men's amateur baseball tournament. The tournament was sanctioned by the International Baseball Federation, which titled it the Amateur World Series from the 1938 tournament through the 1986 AWS. The tournament was held, for the second time, in Taiwan (which played as Chinese Taipei), from November 6 to 18. The United States defeated Cuba in the final, winning its third title. There were 18 participating countries, split into two groups, with the first four of each group qualifying for the finals. The Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL; ) is the top-tier professional baseball league in Taiwan. The league was established in 1989 and played the first season in 1990.
