Doris Laine
Doris Laine (from 1952, Laine-Almi; 31 October 1931 — 15 December 2018) was an internationally recognised Finnish ballet dancer, dance choreographer and pedagog, who later held several prominent leadership positions in dance and the wider performing arts. She is regarded as one of the most influential people in Finnish dance. Career Dance Laine trained at the ballet school of the Ballet of Finland (later to become the Finnish National Ballet), as well as studying at the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts ('GITIS') and the Moscow State Academy of Choreography. During and after her formal training, she made annual study visits to the USSR, France and the UK. Laine began her professional career in the Finnish National Ballet's ''corps de ballet'' in 1947, before being promoted to soloist in 1952, and to principal in 1956, which position she held for twenty years. Alfons Almi
Alfons Almi ( Alm, until 1935; 20 August 1904 — 22 February 1991) was a Finnish opera singer and administrator. He has been described as the 'father of Finnish opera'. Career Almi sang the principal tenor at the Opera of Finland (later to become the Finnish National Opera) from 1934 to 1952. He later moved into management, first as the Finance Manager from 1952, then progressing to general management, and eventually reaching the post of Director General from 1966 to 1971. He also sat on the company's supervisory council and board of directors from 1940 to 1971. One of his main achievements was the establishment of the National Opera's own in-house orchestra. Mauno Koivisto
Mauno Henrik Koivisto (; 25 November 1923 – 12 May 2017) was a Finnish politician who served as the ninth president of Finland from 1982 to 1994. He also served as the country's prime minister twice, from 1968 to 1970 and again from 1979 to 1982. He was also the first member of the Social Democratic Party to be elected as President of Finland. The following are academic ranks in the Finnish higher education system. There are a specific number of posts, which can be applied to when they are vacated or established. Professors Finland's system is similar to the traditional German system in that there is a limited number of posts for professors (''professori''), who head research groups, and take part in administration in addition to lecturing and thesis supervision. Fulfillment of a professor's post often requires that the previous professor has retired. Traditionally, there was no assistant / associate / full professor career track, nor an official "tenure track". The title of ''apulaisprofessori'' ("assistant professor") was retired in 1998, but reintroduced in 2010. Qualifications for a professor's position are a doctoral degree and an extensive independent publication and teaching record.
