Dawam Rahardjo
Dawam Rahardjo (April 20, 1942 – May 31, 2018) was an Indonesian Muslim scholar and human rights activist. An economist by profession, Dawam was widely known for his uncompromising defence of minority groups and his advocacy for religious pluralism in Indonesian society. He was awarded the Yap Thiam Hien Award in 2013. Life and career Born in Solo, Central Java on April 20, 1942, Dawam Rahardjo was one of the four Muslim students, along with Nurcholish Madjid, Ahmad Wahib and Djohan Effendi, who initiated “the Islamic rejuvenation” movement in the 1970s. Challenging the long held convictions propagated by the Islamic parties, they advocated for a more inclusive approach to Islam, which, they believed, was suitable for Indonesia as a diverse country. Yap Thiam Hien Award
Penghargaan Yap Thiam Hien (Yap Thiam Hien Award) is an award given by Yayasan Pusat Studi Hak Asasi Manusia to people with contributions in human rights issues in Indonesia. The name is based on an Indonesian Chinese lawyer and a human right activist Yap Thiam Hien. The award is usually given every 10 December since 1992. Surakarta

Nurcholish Madjid (March 17, 1939 – August 29, 2005), in Indonesia affectionately known as Cak Nur, was a prominent Indonesian Muslim intellectual. Early in his academic career, Nurcholish was a leader in various student organizations. He soon became well known as a proponent for modernization within Islam. Throughout his career he continued to argue that for Islam to be victorious in the global struggle of ideas, it needs to embrace the concepts of tolerance, democracy and pluralism. Ahmad Wahib
Ahmad Wahib (November 9, 1942 - March 31, 1973) was an Indonesian progressive Islamic intellectual. He is known for his reformist thinking especially from his diary in the publication ''Pergolakan Pemikiran Islam'' (Upheaval in Islamic Thinking) edited by his fellow progressive Islamic thinkers Djohan Effendi and Ismet Natsir. In his diary, he criticized heavily the perceived rigidity and the absolutism of Islamic traditions and advocated for the radical reapproach on religious norms. He was a part of the Yogyakarta based progressive Islamic intellectual circle Limited Group led by Mukti Ali. In one interview with Douglas E. Ramage, an Indonesian intellectual graduated from the University of South Carolina, he referred to Wahib as one of the revolutionary Islamic thinkers. Djohan Effendi (October 1, 1939 – November 17, 2017) was the Ministry of State Secretariat (Indonesia), Secretary of State of Indonesia, under President of Indonesia, President Abdurrahman Wahid from 2000 to 2001.
