David Florence
David Florence (born 8 August 1982) is a retired British slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1999 to 2021. He is the 2013 and 2015 world champion in individual single canoe (C1) and 2013 champion in double canoe (C2), the latter with Richard Hounslow. Florence was the first canoeist since Charles Dussuet, sixty years earlier, to achieve the C1, C2 double at the same World Championships. Florence won silver medals at three consecutive Olympics: in the C1 in 2008 and in the C2 in 2012 and 2016 (with Richard Hounslow). He announced his retirement from the sport in May 2022. Early life Having been born in Aberdeen, Florence lived in Edinburgh between the ages of 7 and 18 on the same street as future world and Olympic cycling champion Chris Hoy. 2017 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships
The 2017 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships was the 38th edition of the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships. The event took place from 22 September to 1 October 2017 in Pau, France under the auspices of International Canoe Federation (ICF) at the Pau-Pyrénées Whitewater Stadium. Pau was also hosting the Wildwater Canoeing World Championships as part of the same event. The Mixed C2 event returned to the world's program for the first time since 1981. The men's C2 team event was not a world championship event due to only 4 countries participating. A non-olympic event must have participants from at least 6 countries to be counted as a world championship. Richard Hounslow
Richard John Hounslow (born 19 December 1981) is a British slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1999 until his retirement in 2016. He started out as a specialist in the kayak (K1) category, but in 2009 he also started competing in canoe doubles (C2) alongside David Florence. In his last season (2016) he concentrated on the C2 class exclusively. Personal and early life Hounslow was born in the London Borough of Harrow, which he represented in the London Youth Games. He attended Harrow College. He was inducted into the London Youth Games Hall of Fame in 2012. Outside of canoeing, Hounslow is a Tottenham Hotspur supporter. Career At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London he won a silver medal in the C2 event and placed 12th in the K1 event. 2016 European Canoe Slalom Championships
The 2016 European Canoe Slalom Championships took place in Liptovský Mikuláš, Slovakia under the auspices of the European Canoe Association (ECA). It was the 17th edition of the competition and Liptovský Mikuláš hosted the event for the second time after previously hosting it in 2007. The events took place at the Ondrej Cibak Whitewater Slalom Course from 12 to 15 May 2016. This event also served as the European qualification for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The 2010 European Canoe Slalom Championships took place in Bratislava, Slovakia between August 13 and 15, 2010 under the auspices of the European Canoe Association (ECA). It was the 11th edition. The 2012 European Canoe Slalom Championships took place in Augsburg, Germany between May 9 and 13, 2012 under the auspices of the European Canoe Association (ECA). It was the 13th edition and Augsburg hosted this event for the second time after its inaugural edition in 1996. 2018 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships
The 2018 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships were the 39th edition of the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships. The event took place from 25 to 30 September 2018 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil under the auspices of International Canoe Federation (ICF). The competitions were held at the Deodoro Olympic Whitewater Stadium which had also hosted the canoe slalom events of the 2016 Summer Olympics. Brazil hosted the event for the third time after the 1997 championships in Três Coroas and the 2007 championships in Foz do Iguaçu. It was the first World Championships not to feature the discontinued men's C2 event. Russia and Argentina won their first ever medals at the Canoe Slalom World Championships.
