Danish Youth Ensemble
The Danish Youth Ensemble (DUEN, da, Det danske Ungdomsensemble) is the national youth orchestra of Denmark. It consists of 25 string players, selected from all over Denmark. Founded by the Danish Radio in 2004 as the ''Danish Radio Youth Ensemble'' (DRUEN). It became independent in 2011, as DR could no longer afford to fund the project. It was founded with the goal of giving young musicians a chance to develop their skills, alongside introducing other youth to classical music. The performances, therefore, were not limited to traditional concert halls, but also occurred in schools across the country. Additionally, DUEN has played at Vega, Roskilde Festival, and P3 Guld, and seek to combine classical and rhythmic music. It is a member of the European Federation of National Youth Orchestras. String Orchestra
A string orchestra is an orchestra consisting solely of a string section made up of the bowed strings used in Western Classical music. The instruments of such an orchestra are most often the following: the violin, which is divided into first and second violin players (each usually playing different parts), the viola, the cello, and usually, but not always, the double bass. String orchestras can be of chamber orchestra size ranging from between 12 (4 first violins, 3 second violins, 2 violas, 2 cellos and 1 bass = 12) and 21 musicians (6 first violins, 5 second violins, 4 violas, 4 cellos and 2 double basses= 21) sometimes performing without a conductor. DR (broadcaster)
DR (), officially the Danish Broadcasting Corporation in English, is a Danish public-service radio and television broadcasting company. Founded in 1925 as a public-service organization, it is Denmark's oldest and largest electronic media enterprise. DR is a founding member of the European Broadcasting Union. DR was originally funded by a media licence, however since 2022, the media license has been replaced by an addition to the Danish income tax. Roskilde Festival
The Roskilde Festival is a Danish music festival held annually south of Roskilde. It is one of the largest music festivals in Europe and the largest in the Nordic countries. It was created in 1971 by two high school students and a promoter. In 1972, the festival was taken over by the Roskilde Foundation, which has since run the festival as a non-profit organization for development and support of music, culture and humanism. In 2014, the Roskilde Foundation provided festival participants with the opportunity to nominate and vote upon which organizations should receive funds raised by the festival. The Roskilde Festival was Denmark's first music-oriented festival created for hippies, and today covers more of the mainstream youth from Scandinavia and the rest of Europe. The European Federation of National Youth Orchestras (EFNYO) is the association of the national youth orchestras of Europe. Its mission statement is to "provide a unique platform for the exchange of experience in orchestra training". It is co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.
