DR (broadcaster)
DR (), officially the Danish Broadcasting Corporation in English, is a Danish public-service radio and television broadcasting company. Founded in 1925 as a public-service organization, it is Denmark's oldest and largest electronic media enterprise. DR is a founding member of the European Broadcasting Union. DR was originally funded by a media licence, however since 2022, the media license has been replaced by an addition to the Danish income tax. Today, DR operates three television channels, all of which are distributed free-to-air via a nationwide DVB-T2 network. DR also operates seven radio channels. All are available nationally on DAB+ radio and online, with the four original stations also available on FM radio. Public broadcasting involves radio, television and other electronic media outlets whose primary mission is public service. Public broadcasters receive funding from diverse sources including license fees, individual contributions, public financing and commercial financing. Public broadcasting may be nationally or locally operated, depending on the country and the station. In some countries a single organization runs public broadcasting. FM Radio
FM broadcasting is a method of radio broadcasting using frequency modulation (FM). Invented in 1933 by American engineer Edwin Armstrong, wide-band FM is used worldwide to provide high fidelity sound over broadcast radio. FM broadcasting is capable of higher fidelity—that is, more accurate reproduction of the original program sound—than other broadcasting technologies, such as AM broadcasting. It is also less susceptible to common forms of interference, reducing static and popping sounds often heard on AM. Therefore, FM is used for most broadcasts of music or general audio (in the audio spectrum). FM radio stations use the very high frequency range of radio frequencies. DR Ramasjang
DR Ramasjang is a Danish television channel owned by DR targeting children aged 3–10. The channel is named after the Danish word , which refers to a loud or festive uproar, similar to the English word '' hullabaloo''. History DR presented their idea to launch a channel for children in 2005 in preparation for the new media settlement of 2006. When the settlement was presented in June 2006, the plan was for the children's channel to broadcast in the daytime, while a history channel would broadcast in the evening. In preparation for the launch of the new channel, DR concentrated their division for children's programmes, DR B&U, to Aarhus. Signe Lindkvist, who had participated in many children's programmes, was appointed as editor of the channel in 2008. High-definition television (HD or HDTV) describes a television system which provides a substantially higher image resolution than the previous generation of technologies. The term has been used since 1936; in more recent times, it refers to the generation following standard-definition television (SDTV), often abbreviated to HDTV or HD-TV. DR HD was a Danish high-definition television channel and DR's sixth licence-funded channel. The channel launched on 1 November 2009. All content on DR HD were in HD quality; no upscaled standard definition programmes were broadcast. DR K
DR K was a Danish free-to-air television channel owned by state broadcaster DR. Its programming was centred towards culture and history. History Originally conceived as a channel dedicated to history, the channel was first presented in 2005 in the run up to DR's new settlement with the Danish state. It would draw on DR's vast archives of Danish material. The effort would be combined with digitalising DR's archives and launching interactive services. There would also be special channels for children, the youth and drama. When the media settlement was presented in June 2006, the plans were to launch a combined channel with children's programmes in the daytime and history programmes in the evening. DR Update
DR Update was a Danish 24-hour television news channel broadcast by DR. Although the channel was primarily distributed via the web, it was also available on regular broadcast television from the start on satellite from Canal Digital and from some community antennas. The programme content was updated between 07:00 and 23:00. In January 2008, the Danish Parliament approved broadcast of the channel on the digital terrestrial network. The channel used frequency space which was used to simulcast news bulletins in sign language between in the early evening. DR Update broadcast round-the-clock, except between 17:00 and 20:00, when the space was used by sign language simulcasts. The terrestrial launch took place on 19 February 2008. TV 2 (''TV to'') is a Danish government-owned broadcast and subscription television station in Denmark based in Odense, Funen. History Since 1949, Danmarks Radio had been the sole provider of television in Denmark. Wanting to end the monopoly, the Danish Parliament voted on 30 May 1986, to create TV2, as a second choice for public service television. Upon its establishment, it had first begun its experimental test transmissions, and then, two years later, it had therefore commenced its official broadcast on 1 October 1988, with its first program being ''Danish Symphony'' which is broadcast at 17:00, followed by the news at 19:30. Teletext sends data in the broadcast signal, hidden in the invisible vertical blanking interval area at the top and bottom of the screen. The teletext decoder in the television buffers this information as a series of "pages", each given a number. The user can display chosen pages using their remote control. In broad terms, it can be considered as Videotex, a system for the delivery of information to a user in a computer-like format, typically displayed on a television or a dumb terminal, but that designation is usually reserved for systems that provide bi-directional communication, such as Prestel or Minitel. 1968 Winter Olympics
The 1968 Winter Olympics, officially known as the X Olympic Winter Games (french: Les Xes Jeux olympiques d'hiver), were a winter multi-sport event held from 6 to 18 February 1968 in Grenoble, France. Thirty-seven countries participated. Frenchman Jean-Claude Killy won three gold medals in all the alpine skiing events. In women's figure skating, Peggy Fleming won the only United States gold medal. The games have been credited with making the Winter Olympics more popular in the United States, not least of which because of ABC's extensive coverage of Fleming and Killy, who became overnight sensations among teenage girls. The 1968 Winter Games marked the first time the IOC permitted East and West Germany to enter separately, and the first time the IOC ordered drug and gender testing of competitors.
