Dalkeith RFC
Dalkeith RFC is a Scottish rugby union club based in Dalkeith, Midlothian. They are founding and continuing full members of the Scottish Rugby Union and play home games at Kings Park, Dalkeith. The club currently plays in . History The club was formed in 1898, playing its first match against Edinburgh Institution 2nd XV (now Stewart's Melville) on 14 October. Dalkeith won 60–0 with six tries. Although the team line-up that played that day was not recorded, a team photograph from 1899 hangs in the clubhouse. The club's first president was J.C. Paterson and the captain was J. Warden, a farmer at Wester Cowden. During the first year, the club also played against Morningside, Brunstone, Heriots 2nd XV and Watsonians 3rd XV. Clubs played in 1899 included Heriots, Royal High School, Edinburgh University, Peebles and Corstorphine, with J. Duncan captaining the side that season. Hawick RFC
Hawick Rugby Football Club is an semi-pro rugby union side, currently playing in the Scottish Premiership and Border League. The club was founded in 1885 and are based at Mansfield Park at Hawick in the Scottish Borders. Splinter from Hawick and Wilton RFC The premier club of Hawick was Hawick and Wilton RFC. This was formed by the Hawick and Wilton Cricket Club members as a sport to play in the winter. It ran the Hawick and Wilton Sevens; the fourth oldest rugby sevens tournament in the world (behind Melrose 883 Gala pril 1884and Selkirk Cricket Club ay 1884. For the members of Hawick and Wilton RFC however cricket came first and this led to the splinter club of Hawick RFC forming in 1885. Hawick and Wilton RFC continued on after Hawick RFC formed as rivals; and for a time both the Hawick and Wilton Sevens and the later Hawick Sevens co-existed. Arthur Brown (born 10 December 1949) is a former Scotland international rugby union player. Rugby Union career Amateur career He played for Gala. He was part of the Gala 7s side that won the Gala Sevens in 1969 beating Loughborough Colleges in the final; and in 1970, beating Llanelli in the final. The Gala 7s side of Ken Oliver, Peter Brown, Johnny Brown, Dunc Paterson, Arthur Brown, John Frame and Drew Gill were a notable side. Nicknamed the ''magnificent seven'' the Gala 7s won 16 Sevens tournaments between 1970 and 1972. Provincial career He played for South of Scotland District. Jim Telfer
James Telfer (born 17 March 1940) is a Scottish former rugby union coach and player. As a player, he won 21 international caps in the amateur era, also having a career as a headmaster at Hawick High School and Galashiels Academy and Forrester High School as a chemistry teacher. With Sir Ian McGeechan he had success with both the Scotland national team and the British Lions. Playing career Telfer played for Melrose RFC and was still a student when he was first selected for international duties. He later worked as a chemistry teacher. His first cap came against France at Murrayfield on 4 January 1964. His last match for Scotland was on 28 February 1970 at Lansdowne Road against Ireland. Preston Lodge Former Pupil Rugby Football Club is a rugby union club based in Prestonpans in East Lothian, Scotland. Formed in 1929, they currently play in Scottish National League Division Two. History The club formed in 1929–30 with Dr. Boyle as its first president and originates from the roots of Preston Lodge High School, formed in 1924. This connection is still going strong today. The club fields teams at every age group Primary 1–7, Secondary 1–3, under-16, under-18. As well as fielding two senior XV's. The Club has formed links over the years with United Pirates – a club in New Zealand and Balmy Beach rugby club in Toronto, Canada. Currie RFC
Currie Rugby Football Club are an Edinburgh-based rugby union club in the Scottish Rugby Union, they currently play in the Scottish Premiership. Despite the name, "Currie" RFC is actually based in the neighbouring suburb of Balerno, and they play at Malleny Park. Currently the club run three senior sides, along with the Colts and youth rugby ages group teams. History The foundation of the club was initially started by six individuals; Bob Kirkwood, Jack Hogg, Roger Mclaren, Tom Chandler, David Bisset & Alex Galbraith . Having discussed the formation of a team in a local bar called the Weavers Knowe. From these discussions followed the idea to form a full rugby club in the local area. Haddington RFC
Haddington Rugby Football Club is a rugby union team based in Haddington, East Lothian. History Founded in 1911, the team plays its home games at Neilson Park. Haddington player Jock Wemyss founded the Co-optimists; following a Barbarians inspired match in Haddington in 1924. They compete in BT National League Division 3, the 3rd tier of Scottish club rugby. Player development The minis section was set up almost 50 years ago by Bill Hamilton. The minis and the School of Rugby with Knox Academy are key to the ongoing success serving as nursery for players. Haddington currently have over 100 kids in each; and the club are delighted that they recently managed to play a couple of girls matches as they seek to develop a woman's team.
