Currie RFC
Currie Rugby Football Club are an Edinburgh-based rugby union club in the Scottish Rugby Union, they currently play in the Scottish Premiership. Despite the name, "Currie" RFC is actually based in the neighbouring suburb of Balerno, and they play at Malleny Park. Currently the club run three senior sides, along with the Colts and youth rugby ages group teams. History The foundation of the club was initially started by six individuals; Bob Kirkwood, Jack Hogg, Roger Mclaren, Tom Chandler, David Bisset & Alex Galbraith . Having discussed the formation of a team in a local bar called the Weavers Knowe. From these discussions followed the idea to form a full rugby club in the local area. The 'six' were joined by Gordon Stewart, and given the necessary backing and, more importantly, use of the facilities at Currie High School, by the Headmaster, Ronnie Paul. Scottish Rugby Union
The Scottish Rugby Union (SRU; gd, Aonadh Rugbaidh na h-Alba) is the governing body of rugby union in Scotland. Styled as Scottish Rugby, it is the second oldest Rugby Union, having been founded in 1873. The SRU oversees the national league system, known as the Scottish League Championship, and the Scottish National teams. Scottish Cup (rugby Union)
The Scottish Cup is the annual knock-out cup competition for domestic rugby union clubs in Scotland. The cup has been competed for since the 1995-1996 season. The competition was in abeyance between 2019 and 2022, initially due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and made its return in the 2022-23 season. Despite many structural changes the competition has always culminated with the final at Murrayfield Stadium. Format Clubs in the three National Leagues compete in the first round, with six Premiership sides added in the second round, and the final four Premiership teams added in the third round of the competition. As part of the Scottish Cup Finals day, the finals of the Shield and Bowl competitions are also held. Clubs outside the National League compete in one of four regional tournaments (Borders, Caledonia, Edinburgh, and West) during the season, with the winners of each playing in a semi-final against another region. Blair Kinghorn
Blair Simon Kinghorn (born 18 January 1997) is a Scottish professional rugby union player who primarily plays fly-half for Edinburgh in the United Rugby Championship. He has also represented Scotland at international level, having made his test debut against England during the 2018 Six Nations Championship. Edinburgh Edinburgh signed Kinghorn on a two-year professional contract straight from Edinburgh Academy. He made his professional debut as a 70th-minute substitute in Edinburgh's match against Zebre in the 2015–16 Pro12. Graham Ellis (born 6 April 1965) is a physical education teacher and retired Scottish rugby union player who received four caps as hooker. Early life Ellis was born in Hawick, Scotland on 6 April 1965. He was educated at Hawick High School. Rugby Union career Amateur career He played for Glasgow Academicals. Ben Cairns
Ben Cairns (born 29 September 1985 in Leeds) is a former Scotland rugby union international who played for Edinburgh Rugby in the Pro12. Cairns' position of choice is as a Centre and he can also operate at Full-back and on the Wing. He won his First Cap for Scotland in Rosario against Argentina and then won his Second in Buenos Aires against the same Opponents a Week later. Matthew Scott (born 30 September 1990) is a Scottish rugby union player with 39 caps for Scotland who plays for Leicester Tigers in England's Premiership Rugby. His regular playing position is Centre. Early life Scott was born in Dunfermline, Scotland. He was deputy head boy at Currie High School. In 2008 he embarked on full-time study at the University of Edinburgh while developing as a rugby player. He graduated with a law degree in 2013. Dougie Fife (born 8 August 1990) is a Scottish rugby union player who currently plays for the New Orleans Gold of Major League Rugby (MLR). He previously played for Edinburgh Rugby and the New England Free Jacks. Walkerburn Sevens
Walkerburn Sevens is an annual rugby sevens event held by Walkerburn RFC, in Walkerburn, Scotland. The Walkerburn Sevens was the sixth of the Border Sevens tournaments to be instated, in 1911, after the bigger events of the Border Sevens spring circuit. The Walkerburn Sevens is traditionally the last tournament of the Sevens season. Although other Sevens events were to join the Borders Sevens Circuit later, the Walkerburn Sevens has kept its view as a finale from the other tournaments. The other Borders Sevens tournaments combine in a Kings of the Sevens league; the Walkerburn tournament is called the ''Prince of the Sevens''. 2019's Walkerburn Sevens will be played on 25 May. Peebles Sevens
Peebles Sevens is an annual rugby sevens event held by Peebles RFC, in Peebles, Scotland. This was one of a group of Sevens tournaments instated after the First World War extending the original Borders Spring Circuit. The Peebles Sevens began in 1923. Due to a calendar change in 2016; the tournament was moved from end-of-season to start-of-season. Hence 2016 shows two winners:- one for 2015–16 season and one for 2016–17 season. Subsequent tournaments were held as start of season Sevens. The 2018 winner (for season 2018–19) is Melrose. The Peebles Sevens is part of the Kings of the Sevens championship run by the Border League. This event was one of the first Sevens tournaments in the Borders to run with a 12-person squad in 2018–19 season, as opposed to a 10-person squad. It also featured rolling substitutions.
