Dakar Region (french: link=no, Région de Dakar) is the smallest and most populated Region of Senegal, encompassing the capital city of the country, Dakar, and all its suburbs along the Cap–Vert Peninsula, Africa's most westerly point. Administration The Dakar region is divided into five départements (administrative structures without political power, unlike the French départements). The départements had the following areas and populations at the Census of 2013: Keur Massar Department was formed in May 2021. Dakar department Dakar Department is also a commune (city). Cap Vert
Cap-Vert, or the Cape Verde Peninsula, is a peninsula in Senegal and the westernmost point of the continent of Africa and of the Afro-Eurasia mainland. Portuguese explorers called it Cabo Verde or "Green Cape". The Cape Verde islands, further west, are named after the cape. Dakar, the capital of Senegal, occupies parts including its southern tip. Formed by a combination of volcanic offshore islands and a land bridge produced by coastal currents, the cape projects into the Atlantic Ocean, bending back to the southeast at its tip. Exposure to southwesterly winds contributes to Cape Verde's seasonal verdant appearance, in contrast to the undulating yellow dunes to the north. Diamniadio
Diamniadio is a town in Senegal. History Diamniadio is a part of the collective development program of the government of Senegal under the leadership of President Macky Sall to revitalize Senegal's economy. The development of the new city is taking place around 30 km from Dakar, close to the Blaise Diagne International Airport, which opened in December 2017. The Diamniadio Lake City is one of its suburbs. The idea behind the development is to ease the population pressure on Dakar. On completion, the new city will be connected to Dakar through a 32 km express highway, which will reduce the travel time from 90 minutes to an average of 30 minutes. After visiting in November 2017, the minister in charge of the project, Cheikh Kanté, described the site as "80% completed". Bargny, Senegal
Bargny (also, Bargny-Gouddau and Bargny Gouddou) is a settlement in Senegal. It is located in a somewhat sheltered bay about 15 km to the east of the capital, Dakar. Environment The community has a number of severe environmental threats, including coastal erosion and contamination from economic projects and industries in the community. Industries Cement The town holds one of the largest cement factories in West Africa. Created in 1984, the factory creates toxic dust which exposes local residents to contamination. Transport Bargny is the site of a proposed deep water port for mineral exports, such as iron ore. The railway following the coast from Dakar heads inland from this point to Thiès. In 2016, construction of the Train Express Regional started. Power A coal-fired power station, the Sendou power station, was opened in 2018. The London boroughs are the 32 local authority districts that together with the City of London make up the administrative area of Greater London; each is governed by a London borough council. The present London boroughs were all created at the same time as Greater London on 1 April 1965 by the ''London Government Act 1963'' and are a type of local government district. Twelve were designated as Inner London boroughs and twenty as Outer London boroughs. The City of London, the historic centre, is a separate ceremonial county and local government district that functions quite differently from a London borough. Rufisque
Rufisque ( ar, روفيسك; Wolof: Tëngeéj) is a city in the Dakar region of western Senegal, at the base of the Cap-Vert Peninsula. It has a population of 179,797 (2002 census). In the past it was an important port city in its own right, but is now a suburb of Dakar. Rufisque is also the capital of the department of the same name and lies east of Dakar, the capital of Senegal.
