D61 Motorway (Slovakia)
The Motorway D61 () was a motorway in Slovakia, which was merged with the Motorway D1 in 1999. Its route was: Bratislava ( D2) - Trnava ( R1), before 1999 D65) - Piešťany - Trenčín (junction with old D1). Most of the D61 part of new D1 highway is still marked with old kilometres (except in some parts of Bratislava). Sections of the motorways The motorway was first mentioned in plans in 1963 and its construction started in 1972 by constructing Bratislava - Senec section. Motorway D4 (Slovakia)
D4 is a motorway in southwestern Slovakia. The planned highway is commonly referred to as the Bratislava bypass. For decades, there was only a short stretch from Austrian border at Jarovce to the junction with D2 (part of the former D61), construction of which started in 1996 and was opened in 1998. Construction of various other parts started in the late 2010s, with several openings throughout 2020 and 2021. The extension to the motorway D1 between Bratislava and Senec is underway, in order to connect the southern bypass of Bratislava to the country's main traffic artery. Nové Mesto nad Váhom (; german: Neustadt an der Waag, Neustadtl, Waag-Neustadtl, Waagneustadtl, Waag-Neustadt; hu, Vágújhely, Vág-Újhely) is a town in the Trenčín Region of Slovakia. Horná Streda
Horná Streda (, known as ''Vág-Szerdahely'' before 1898) is a village and municipality in Nové Mesto nad Váhom District in the Trenčín Region of western Slovakia. History In historical records the village was first mentioned in 1263. Prior to 1918 it was part of Nyitra County, Austria-Hungary. It then became part of the First Czechoslovak Republic. Geography The municipality lies at an altitude of 169 metres and covers an area of 9.827 km². It has a population of about 1300 people. The village lies about 7 km north of Piešťany and approximately 12 km south of Nové Mesto nad Váhom. Horná Streda is about an hour's drive away from Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. Senec ( hu, Szenc, ) is a town in the Bratislava Region of south-western Slovakia. The town is the administrative seat of the Senec District and its largest municipality. In 2022 it had a population of over 20,000. Prístavný Most
Prístavný most (literally ''Harbour Bridge'', until 1993 known as Most hrdinov Dukly or ''Dukla Heroes' Bridge'') is a double-floor motorway-railroad truss bridge over the Danube in Bratislava, Slovakia, near the Port of Bratislava. It lies on the D1 motorway. It is a 599 m long (1080 m with access roads) bridge (over the Danube part), and was built between 1977 and 1985. There are also pathways for pedestrians and cyclists on the bridge. Today, the bridge suffers from heavy traffic because it is a route for many commuters from Petržalka, and due to the lack of an outer circle around the city it is also a route for transfer traffic. The situation improved slightly after the opening of the nearby Apollo Bridge in 2005. Traffic jams are common around the bridge and they occur regularly at the end of each week and after traffic accidents. The D1 is a east-west motorway ( sk, diaľnica) in Slovakia. Its route is Bratislava ( D2/ D4) - Trnava ( R1) - Trenčín ( R2) - Púchov ( R6) - Žilina ( D3) - Martin ( R3) Ruzomberok ( R3) - Poprad - Prešov ( R4) - Košice (R4) - Michalovce - SK/ UA border. Trenčín
Trenčín (, also known by other alternative names) is a city in western Slovakia of the central Váh River valley near the Czech border, around from Bratislava. It has a population of more than 55,000, which makes it the eighth largest municipality of the country and is the seat of the Trenčín Region and the Trenčín District. It has a medieval castle, Trenčín Castle, on a rock above the city. Trenčín is chosen as the European Capital of Culture in 2026. Piešťany
Piešťany (; german: Pistyan, hu, Pöstyén, pl, Pieszczany , cs, Píšťany ) is a town in Slovakia. It is located in the western part of the country within the Trnava Region and is the seat of its own district. It is the biggest and best known spa town in Slovakia and has around 28,000 inhabitants. Etymology The name Piešťany comes from Slovak ''Piesok'' (sand), referring to local sandbanks. The etymology is straightforward – ''Piešťanci'' – people who live on the sandy site and ''Piešťany'' – their settlement. History The first human settlement in the area is dated to the prehistoric times, about 80,000 years ago.
