Döhren
Döhren is a village and a former municipality in the Börde district in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Since 1 January 2010, it is part of the town Oebisfelde-Weferlingen. Geography Döhren is located about two km north of Helmstedt, on the border of the Lappwald mountain range. History In 1910 there were 434 residents in Döhren. From 1994 until 1 January 2005 Dören was a part of the administration partnership Weferlingen. From 2005 until 31 December 2009, a member of the administration collectivity Flechtingen. Börde (district)
Börde (german: Landkreis Börde) is a district in Saxony-Anhalt in Germany. Its seat is the town Haldensleben. It takes its name from the natural region Magdeburg Börde. It is the site of the Morsleben radioactive waste repository. The disposal of waste into the facility ended in 1998. Geography The Börde district covers the area west of the city of Magdeburg. With an area of , it is the second-largest district of Saxony-Anhalt. It is bounded by (from the north and clockwise) the districts Altmarkkreis Salzwedel, Stendal (district), Stendal, Jerichower Land, the city of Magdeburg, Salzlandkreis and Harz (district), Harz. Helmstedt (; Eastphalian: ''Helmstidde'') is a town on the eastern edge of the German state of Lower Saxony. It is the capital of the District of Helmstedt. The historic university and Hanseatic city conserves an important monumental heritage of Romanesque and Renaissance buildings, as well as numerous timber framed houses. During the German partition the nearby Bundesautobahn 2 was the site of the Helmstedt–Marienborn border crossing, the most important on the former inner German border as starting point of the shortest land route between West Germany and West Berlin. Lappwald
The Lappwald is a heavily wooded range of hills, 20 km long and up to 5 km wide, in central Germany. It stretches northwards from the town of Helmstedt. The border between Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt runs through the woods, of which about three quarters is on Lower Saxon terrain. The Lappwald is part of the Elm-Lappwald Nature Park. Location The Lappwald runs from north-west to south-east parallel to the Elm hills, which lie about 10 km further west. The forests of the Lappwald are almost entirely uninhabited. Rundling
A ''Rundling'' is a form of circular village, now found only in Northern Germany, typical of settlements in the Germanic-Slav contact zone in the Early Medieval period. The ''Rundling'' was a relatively common village form created by German law, but housing Slav farmers. It usually comprises a central, circular village green owned in common with individually owned farmsteads radiating out around it like the spokes of a wheel. The best examples are now only in a small area of Lower Saxony in Germany near to the town of Lüchow. Nineteen of these villages have been put forward as an ensemble for consideration as a possible World Heritage Site, and a decision is expected in 2023.
