Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. A goal is awarded for kicking the ball under the crossbar into the net (the ball cannot be hand-passed into the goal), signalled by the umpire raising a green flag. Lucan Sarsfields GAA
Lucan Sarsfields (Irish: ''Sáirséalaigh Leamhcáin'' ) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Lucan, Dublin, Ireland. It was founded in 1886, making it one of the oldest GAA clubs in Dublin. Sarsfields were one of 16 teams which contested the Dublin Senior Championship in 1887. They were also involved in the Senior Championship of 1892, and the club has fielded Gaelic football, hurling and camogie teams ever since. Early success Lucan won the Intermediate Football League in the 1904–05 season. It is reported that they did this with the help of five players from Balbriggan. The story goes that in 1902 a team call Balbriggan Wanderers won the Intermediate League and then for some reason or other went out of existence in 1904. One of the players on that team was a man named Paddy Richardson, who was a fish merchant and regularly attended the Dublin market. O'Tooles GAC (Irish: ''Cumann Uí Thuathail'') is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Ayrfield, Dublin, Ireland, formed in 1901. History Early years O'Tooles GAC was formed in 1901 at 100 Seville Place in the north inner city of Dublin from the Gaelic League branch. The Gaelic League branch held their inaugural meeting in February 1901. Francis Cahill was one of the founding members of the club and Brother J.A. O’Mahoney, who was superior of O'Connell School was elected as the first president. On Thursday 8 October 1901, after Irish classes the clubs first hurling team was formed. The captain of the team was Edward Keegan with Thomas Keegan elected as secretary and John Taylor as treasurer. Fingallians is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Swords, County Dublin, Ireland. Founded in 1884, Fingallians are one of the oldest clubs in Dublin and they are based at Lawless Memorial Park. History The club caters for Gaelic football, hurling, Ladies football and camogie, at all age groups. They currently play football in the Dublin Intermediate Football Championship, having been relegated from the senior grade in 2011. They have never won the Dublin Senior Football Championship but won the Intermediate Championship in 1957. St Joseph's/OCB (Irish: ''Naomh Seosamh, BUC'') are an amateur athletic club located in the North Inner city of Dublin, Ireland. They are the last remaining Gaelic Athletic Association club in the area. The club is an amalgamation of two clubs: St Joseph's of East Wall and O’Connell Boys of North Wall. St Joseph's were founded in 1918 and rose to prominence, especially in the 1920s and 1930s, albeit with intermittent objections; St Joseph's also produced a continuing stream of inter-county players. O’Connell Boys were established in 1964, as a club for the former members of the O’Connell Boys Youth Club in Seville Place, Dublin. However, changes to the inner city in the latter half of the 20th century – population decline, unemployment, and school closings – caused a corresponding decline in membership for both clubs. Garda GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, founded in 1922. They are the GAA representative team of the Garda Síochána. O'Dwyers GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based at Hamlet Lane, Balbriggan, County Dublin, Ireland, serving the communities of Balbriggan, Balrothery, Balscadden and surrounding areas. Its principal grounds are at Bremore Park, but it also has grounds at Bells Field, Balbriggan, opposite the club house. Whitehall Colmcille (Irish: ''Fionnbhrú Colmcille'' ) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based on Collins' Avenue in Dublin 9, Ireland. Naomh Ólaf CLG
Naomh Olaf is a Gaelic Athletic Association club which was founded in 1981 to provide facilities for encouraging the sporting abilities of the people of the developing parish of Balally in south County Dublin, Ireland. A club house was built and players were recruited from around the area, most of them coming from the local schools of St Olaf's, Gaelscoil Thaobh na Coille, St Benildus College, and St Tiernan's. In recent years more and more players are coming from the Leopardstown and Stepaside areas. St Marys (Saggart) GAA
St Mary's is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Saggart, County Dublin, Ireland. Mary's have won the Dublin Senior Football Championship on one occasion in 1921. Since then they had been relegated to the Dublin Intermediate Football Championship and regained their senior status in 1976 and have remained a Senior club ever since. St Mary's currently play in the Dublin AFL Division 2. Five St Mary's players were on the Dublin team which won the 1942 All Ireland Final against Galway.
