St Marys (Saggart) GAA
St Mary's is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Saggart, County Dublin, Ireland. Mary's have won the Dublin Senior Football Championship on one occasion in 1921. Since then they had been relegated to the Dublin Intermediate Football Championship and regained their senior status in 1976 and have remained a Senior club ever since. St Mary's currently play in the Dublin AFL Division 2. Five St Mary's players were on the Dublin team which won the 1942 All Ireland Final against Galway. The five players were Paddy Bermingham, Gerry Fitzgerald, Peter O'Reilly, Caleb Crone and Paddy O'Connor. Caleb Crone also won an All-Ireland medal with Cork in 1945. The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. Peter O'Reilly (Gaelic Footballer)
Peter O'Reilly (1916 - April 1994) was an Irish Gaelic football manager, coach and player. His championship career at senior level with the Dublin county team lasted for several seasons throughout the 1940s. His older brother Joe O'Reilly was an Irish international soccer player in the 1930s. O'Reilly first came to prominence on the inter-county scene as a member of the Dublin senior team in 1941 when he won his first Leinster medal. He won a second Leinster medal in 1942 before later claiming an All-Ireland medal following a defeat of Galway. As a member of the Leinster inter-provincial team on several occasions, O'Reilly won back-to-back Railway Cup medals in 1944 and 1945. Even during his playing days O'Reilly was heavily involved in coaching and team management. He trained the Dublin team that won the All-Ireland title in 1942 before repeating the feat in 1958. Dublin Junior Football Championship
The Dublin Junior Football championship is the Junior Gaelic Athletic Association Gaelic football competition of Dublin. The winners of the Junior championship go on to qualify for the Dublin Intermediate Football Championship. The winners will also represent Dublin in the Leinster Junior Club Football Championship. St Vincent's are the most successful club in the Junior A championship having won the competition on six occasions, with their most recent victory in 2014 beating Craobh Ciarain in the final. New format In 2018, the grading system of Junior Championships was drastically changed. The Dublin Junior Football Championship is divided between Junior 1 and 2. Junior 1 consists of 16 teams who are divided into four groups of four. The top two sides in each group are then included in an open draw for the quarter finals of the championship. Caleb Crone
Caleb Crone (29 November 1919 – 8 January 1958) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played as a left corner-back for club sides Air Corps and St Mary's, Saggart and was a member of the Dublin and Cork senior football teams from 1941 until 1948. Career Crone first came to Gaelic football prominence playing with the Air Corps club before linking up with St. Mary's in Saggart. He joined the Dublin senior football team in late 1941 before lining out in the 1942 All-Ireland final which saw Dublin claim their first title in 19 years after a 1-10 to 1-08 defeat of Galway. Crone later transferred to the Cork senior football team and collected a second winners' medal after their 2-05 to 0-07 win over Cavan. Saggart
Saggart ( ga, Teach Sagard) is a village in South Dublin, Ireland, south west of Dublin city. It lies between the N7 (Naas Road), Rathcoole, Citywest and Tallaght. It is one of the fastest-growing settlements in Ireland, showing a population increase of 46.1% between 2011 and 2016. Name A monk called Mosacra founded a settlement on the site of the village in the 7th century. The name Saggart derives from ''Teach Sacra'' which means 'house of Sacra' in Irish. History A monastery existed just outside the village in the 7th century. The remains of this monastery are found on the grounds of an equestrian centre approximately 1.5 km from today's Saggart Village.
